Air Force Scholarship and credit check

I am applying for Air Force military scholarship and they said they would do a background check for national security reasons but do they also do a credit check to determine my eligibility for the scholarship?? I was told my academic credentials are competitive but I know my credit is bad. I ran into problems with one credit card but struggled to maintain paying my educational loans first to avoid default and getting no financial aid at all. Am I screwed?

They will do a credit check as well. Just make sure that you have or are in the process of making satisfactory payment arrangements for the credit, otherwise OSI (office of special investigations) will be calling you in the future if for some reason the recruiter fails to investigate. Don't worry. I was in a similar situation, and I am still a AF HPSP scholar.
