Did anyone who interviewed at Albany on March 8th or 9th hear anything yet? They said that they would decide our fate on tueday and let us know by the end of the week. Did anyone get an email yet?

Thanks
Strat

Was it spring break last week? Would that delay decisions for those interviews?

I interviewed mid-february and I am under consideration. If you haven't heard back from the admissions office by thursday the following week, then you should recieve an email about a week later letting you know whether you are under consideration or rejected by snail mail. Good luck!

I interviewed at the end of December, but, I didnt find out anything until sometime in February. My interviewer took some time filling out my evaluation, so, at least two, mayeb three adcom meetings went by before I was discussed. That being said, I wouldn't panic if you dont find anything out by your above timeline.

as for the telephone number:
I have been using the same number (but its not like i call regularly) for the admissions office since the fall. All of a sudden about a month ago instead of the call directing me to the admissions office, I was directed to the recording. I dont think it is because of spring break because the recording has been on for longer than a week.

I didn't hear anything either about the status of my application a week after my interview (the adcom meets on tuesday's the following qweek of your interview). They inform accepted applicants the following week by thursday/friday (2 in my interview group that I know of recieved emails on thursday). I didn't get my email about my UC status until 2 weeks after my interview. So, I believe that people that are UC finds out about 2 weeks or so after their interview and people that are rejected recieve snail mail only. Hope this info helps!

I think wait list would be by email in 2 weeks after the interview

Thanks all who have responded -
So, not accepted immediately, unless I haven't been reviewed yet. Still possible to be on the waitlist, which moves substantially in April....

And, there's a little community of us here 🙂

I'm not sure how much movements there is in April, but I am praying that there is a lot, because I would really like an acceptance at AMC. Stratus: did you get accepted to NYMC? Are you considering AMC as well?

I really want to go to AMC, but I have an acceptance to NYCOM as my backup.

What did you like / dislike about AMC?

What are your compelling reasons to attend the school?

I honestly wasn't that impressed by Albany at my interview so I am looking for the positive sides to the school...

I have an interest in EM, so I like that AMC is a major trauma center. Also, I liked their curriculum and the way the anatomy class is set up (with students teaching other students). So much of medicine is doctors being able to teach other doctors, that I think its important to start early.

When folks from this batch of March 8/9 (a couple of us?) get news, let's post it, so the others can know the info is getting released.

emails are good though b/c acceptances come via email!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hey all!

I'm really rooting for you all! Hope to see some of you in class next year! I'm interested in a discussion about what we all liked/disliked about Albany. I have to decide between them and another school, and some people on SDN like to think of Albany as a safety, and hence don't speak so highly. Personally, though, I really liked it there. I thought their facilities were really nice. The pediatric wing was great! I too liked the students teaching students approach, and I felt the students felt they had some free time too, which I would definitely appreciate! Their match list looked really good too! Anyway, good luck with the waiting game! And let me know what you all thought of the school!

I liked the movement towards systems approach. The ethics and societal level approach towards thinking delivery of medicine and practice of medicine is also important to me. That doctors have a social role to promote health and how it can better be delivered with health as the first priority.

I liked that student input is taken seriously -translated to possible rotations, i.e. integrationist medicine now being offered as one of the things to learn about, starting from student interest.

i like that they choose their classes with non-trad stuff in mind - so the student body will have great, eclectic influence on each other. diversity is important to me.

i called last week, and got an email response yesterday with the same news - the score has been given, but the results have not been approved for release yet. no mention of email in that message, just that the results will be approved for release sometime this week... so of course, i'm on the edge, just like any person waiting for serious health news could feel...

Hey Siobhan, by any chance did you go to Oceana High-school. Your name isn't that common and I went to highschool with someone with your name. Coincidence?

i'd like to hear some additional answers to these questions as well.

hey krgregg -
i'm assuming it's not answers to where i went to highschool 🙂

yeah, i'd like to hear more about what makes albany special, unique, an awesome niche.

johnny walker -
i'm sure a lot of people went to highschool with you, and that girl peach schnappes 🙂

no, i didn't go to oceania (what a beautiful name, though). i do have a fairly special name this side of the atlantic. once in ireland, though, there are key chains, mugs, and license plates, so many so many! Also, I kept turning around every time i heard my name until i realized it's pretty popular there!

oops...the quick reply doesn't quote anything...i was referring to the albany q's 😉

Personally, I liked AMC a lot. The student body is very close-knit and active. The professors are very open and willing to facilitate interaction outside of lecture. The school is going wireless sometime this summer. I really liked the theme-based learning and the team-teach aspects of anatomy lab. Finally, Albany is a pretty cute small city. Of course it has the bad areas you'll find in any city, but the fact that you go 5 miles away from Albany Med and you feel like you're in the country w/cows and farms and then into suburbia--I think it's the perfect mix. A splash of city a splash of surburban life all in one.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!

I just got my email....welcome to the world of "Under Consideration". Anyone know if there is a lot of movement off of this list?

good luck!

no idea...but it sounds like there is.

Hi and welcome to the club. I believe that there are movements in the UC list. I know of 2 people here on SDN that got in from the UC list after sometime. I think both had their interviews last year, and was taken off a couple of months after. Good luck to you.

I also liked AMC alot. I liked the student interaction, the theme-based curriculum, and that student-teach-student anatomy setup. I'll be praying that I hear some good news soon.
