Wow then what's the deal with the rejection. I meet/exceed their average.

i can't help you explain the rejection... unless you can tell me more about your stats.

MCat: same as average
Sci GPA and Overall GPA: both above their average

I'm thinking about adding couple more of NY schools, i'm not from there. I hope it's not too late. I can get the secondaries out pretty quick.

not everything is about numbers man. what about your ECs, personal statement, LORs, etc.?

when my cousin (4.0gpa, 32 MCAT) got rejected from his state school, he later found out that one of his recommenders wrote something bad and thus, got a lot of rejections....

also, when did you complete at albany?

well my cousin went the premed committee route. he had 5 recommenders. 4 of them said he was outgoing, social, involved, and very friendly. the 5th recommender made it a short 2 paragraph-recommednation and said that my cousin was a good student, but was shy and rarely takes the initiative.

my cousin found out at the columbia university interview. the adcom first read him the setence from the rec, and asked him for his opinion/response...

pretty bold...

thats insane. i guess some profs really dont give a ****.

i know it's not numbers.
i got couple of summer programs, some research, volunteer.

I was just surprised at how quick it was. at least toy with me until FEb. that's all i'm sayin.

about Albany:

they are very very random, as are most schools w/ many apps.....

last year: i was wait-listed for interviews
this year: many more ECs, many more honors, 2 great research positions on top of what i had last year...........REJECTED

Does Albany do their secondary invites via e-mail or snail mail?

I got mine more than 8 weeks after my AMCAS was verified. I didn't even bother to send it back in. They basically eliminated any advantage I had in applying earlier than most people.

you should just send it in. Albany has been slow in turning things around. I was verified in the first week in July and I didn't get the secondary until the 2nd or 3rd week of Aug. Then I got the invite the first week of october when I was complete in mid-august. You never know what may happen, give it a shot if you can afford it!

Me too man! Too bad their secondary costs 100 bucks. My GPA is slightly higher than their averages and my MCAT is also 2 points higher. Of all the schools I applied to, Albany seemed the least hardest to get into.

Yeah, I got rejected from there too. I think it's cuz I'm a TX resident, and they don't believe that I'd actually go to AMC. It sux cuz I maxed out my credit card with their secondary and had to pay an overlimit charge. Jerks...

Does anyone know for sure if schools do this, cause i'm TX resident too.

And hell i'd go to AMC before TX schools.

Hmm. I'm a Colorado resident, and haven't heard anything from Albany yet since being complete late August/early September. Online status page still says "ready for review." But I got rejected right quick last year (applied late).

applied late huh? my app isnt' even complete yet and i just got back my aug scores.

dmtang2, I applied late last year due mainly to august MCATs. My files weren't complete until mid-November because of one LOR writer that was slower than molasses in the arctic tundra. I got rejected quickly from everywhere except two places that put me into the "we want to interview you but there isn't enough room now" piles. No interviews, no acceptances... so this year is round two. So far one DO acceptance, one MD interview. No MD acceptances so far. No interview from my state school either tho - still in the 'under review' pile and I was complete everywhere by around 8/18 (9/1 at one place from a lost LOR).

Late can hurt unless you've got outstanding stats in my experience.

Just curious for those who got the rejection notice, how long did it take from date of completion? I can hopefully estimate the time it'll take for my notice.
