aldehyde reaction

remember the passage where one of the compoudns (an aldehyde) reacts w/ alcohol. it asks what side product is produced when water is also present. i would think a hydrate. however, this wasn't an answer choice..

i think its cooh. the aldehyde was formed via rxn with an oxidizing agent. the passage said the aldehyde was not isolated before undergoing the next rxn. oxidizing agent left over + water -> further oxidation to cooh.

I think it is COOH, too, for that reason.
