Nothing wrong with knowing what alkenes are and having general knowledge about it.

I'd just Wiki it:

Here's the main stuff I gathered:
- unsaturated double bonds between carbon
- about 120 degrees angle because of bond
- more reactive than alkanes (because of double bond...they tend to form single bond)
- "ene" ending

Lots more fun stuff on that site.

Honestly, you just need a basic understanding of alkenes (and alkynes as well)
