Hi Brettp, what year were these stats for? I didn't see it anywhere. But thanks for posting 'em!

These are from USnews Fall 2001.

I'm not sure if they are available elsewhere or not Carbon but as far as US News stats, here is the story:*This school did not return the U.S. News statistical survey; limited data appear

Sorry :(

I have a quick question about Northwestern.
Here are the data you provided:

Northwestern University Admissions

Total: 3,185 534 310 169 In state: 453 105 62 34
Out of state: 2,732 429 248 135 Women:1,465 252 157 72
Minorities: N/A N/A N/A N/A International: 233 36 20 8
Acceptance rate: 9.7%

Are total applications really that low? I was under the impression that NU received more in the range of 6-7k. There are a little more than total U.S. 30k applicants. The Northwestern webpage claims that one of every five applicants applies to NU. That would put the number around 6k, nearly twice what your data says. Any ideas as to where this discrepancy is coming from?

Thanks

Probably the higher figure is primary apps, and the lower is completed (i.e., with secondary). That'd be my guess.

From data I've seen the drop off from primary to secondary is generally around 10-20%. The Northwestern application wasn't just "fill in your name and grades", but it certainly wasn't enough of a pain in the ass to cause a 50% non-completion rate...

thanks brett, i was wondering if you could provide the same info on one school it seems u missed SUNY-Upstate or if someone has MSR if they could post the info it would be appreciated.

bumpity bump

The total applicants that they mention.....are they primary or secondary applications.

Good looking brett, you are the man

Bumpity bump bump bump

bump, this should be stickied. Very useful stats for us neurotic premeds

Someone mentioned that Upstate got skipped...here are the stats from the 2004-5 MSAR:

Total: 2391 584 "new entrants" 153
Instate: 1620 479 465
Out of State: 771 105 21

Sorry it doesn't list the actual accepted #'s

keepin' it alive!

I think that Finch may have been left out. Does anyone have Finch stats?

Bump! Great thread! Keeps my hopes up....

Yeah, the "applied" number for Baylor looks low as well. The Baylor website says that they had 4,097 applicants in 2003. So if that was for the primary application, and the 1,686 was for people who completed the secondary, then more than 58% of the applicants didn't complete the secondary. Since Baylor gives everyone a secondary, and it consists entirely of "tell us anything else you would like us to know," this seems really unlikely. Any other thoughts about why the numbers disagree so much?

Anyone know SUNY downstate's STATS?

press the 'bump' button.

What is the definition of minority on this thing. Does minority = URM. Has anyone looked closely at North Dakota, Wisconsin, and especially UNC's minority stats. Almost every minority that interviewed at UNC was given an acceptance. 61/63. Sucks to be the two that didn't get in. I'm not sure about all these stat publications.

A URM, according to the AAMC definition includes:
blacks, Native Americans (American Indian, Alaskan Native or Native Hawaiian), Mexican Americans, and mainland Puerto Ricans.

Thanks Captain Obvious. We all know that. Does the term minority on this thread refer to URM's or all minorities. Learn to answer the question.

Man, you are a super d!ckhead, el doctor. Not three days ago, you were begging for us all to pretty please support me while I piss and moan about not getting into Stanford. Good God, I hope people like you aren't attending the top schools. However, I am impressed by your wit and obvious tough guy attitude while posting on an anonymous message board. Go Stanford!! Keep up your high admissions standards!!!

p.s.- I'm sorry for being so rude. I'm sure Stanford will call in no time. Riiiiight.

i would assume that minority would mean any non-white applicant and not just urms because 74 minorities matriculated at Harvard. 74 seems like a lot of urms for harvard.

So many numbers...

Part of it could have been because Nortwestern required you to complete it within two weeks of getting the secondary. I didn't realize that was the case until the day before it was due so I just said screw it.
