Can't you make it 3.999 ? This would impress me more. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Unfortunately, that one A- prevents me from passing the 3.99 level. My GPA is a 3.991 if you want to get specific. :)

Here is something that all you new first years will have to carry on in order to ensure tradition. Don't worry we will help ya:)

This is a great article on a subject that is often overlooked. I look forward in continuing this tradition at USF.

usfgator, I sent you a PM a while ago. Did you get it?

I did not realize I had a PM. I usually relied on the email notification, but I guess that does not work any more. I sent you one in return.

when i was there, mr. larkin mentioned that he and hinkley had seen each others's lists of acceptees, and that they had many names in common--so that there should be some decent waitlist movement.

Can anyone who withdraws from USF *PLEASE* let us know on this thread? that way us USF waitlistees (ie. me, magellan, leila) can all watch together. thanks.

Cavedogg, any idea how much overlap we're talking about here? It's a tough choice b/t USF and UM. Taking everything into account such as cost, curriculum, clinical, which one would you choose and why? I guess it comes down to whether or not what UM gives you can justify the extra 100K expense. I think most applicants accepted to both would prolly choose USF just coz of the money, what do you think?

i don't know papa...i think most people would prolly go to UM cuz it's in miami, the clinical is better, it's recognized more in the medical arena, and UM is gaining lots of recognition with it's football and baseball success thus far. it would prolly be tough for most to turn down the opportunity. i know of two people who chose UM over USF last year (Canes would be one this year, along with many others on our UM thread), but they WERE UM undergrads (that's how i know them obviously) so they may have been biased coz of that.

the question is..do people who went to..say UF, that weren't interviewed at UF, go to USF or UM?? i think they'd go to UM also. UCF, FIU, Tallahasse..might break down fifty fifty (lotta crackers wanna stay "up north"). we'll see how it turns out.

i mean, i was ready to choose UM over USF too (so add another to the list), but the tuition and being gone for a while are beginnig to appeal more than being able to hang out with my friends there, and living in the beach, etc. screw all that BS..USF staff are way too nice..the money is too nice..Tampa has some pretty nice areas..etc.
plus i'm bitter about UM shafting me, and about how rude they are in general. I *think* i'm ready to move on (i'm not gonna be getting off the waitlist anyway since i'm not "high ranking").

So, Caveman, you are basically saying that these similarities in the Acceptance lists of both schools is going to equal alot of movement in the USF waitlist? I don't believe this is the case. When I was interviewing at UM, there were alot of UF students there. You should have seen their faces when they saw the estimated expenses that they would face if admited to UM. They were shocked. Many stated that it was way too much $$. I think many of those students would choose USF over Miami. But, hey that's just my opinion. By the way, thanks for the confidence that you have in me. But, I really doubt that UM will be accepting me. It has been just too many months. It just can't be good news.

you guys might have a good point there. i just know what i saw..like i said it was biased because most were UM ugrads. i do know, however, that usf gets ~40 people off the waitlist normally (actually i only *think* i know this because i believe someone posted something like it in one of the USF threads). so i'm hoping they get that many off this year.

i know your top choices (canes, papa) are UM, so i hope you get them. hell, i hope i get them...who knows..i might wanna stay here too.

Cane,

I dunno why the UF applicants that you interviewed with would be surprised. Everyone knows going in that UM is a private school. It's pretty much a given that every private school is going to be expensive. Then again, you interviewed in October and Hinkley did say you guys had some of the highest stats he'd ever seen, right? If that's the case, then those applicants will probably be able to be more picky when it comes to choosing where they matriculate. The budget that I got at UM said $47,933. Average debt coming out was $189K. Is that a lot of money? Hell yeah it is. But I didn't care, coz money isn't playing much of a role the way this app cycle has turned out for me. There are no cheap schools out there for me, so I'll be paying $200K regardless of where I matriculate. I will agree though, that USF treats their applicants much better than UM has. Perhaps that's representative of how you'll be treated as a student. God, I hope not if I end up at UM! It's all conjecture at this point.

I would have to say that anyone that chooses um over usf needs to have their head examined. just kidding guys! I am biased towards usf and wasn't even offered an interview at um. I think usf is one of the most under rated schools, not to mention ucf (I know, no med school but you get my point), that i've seen. The clinicals there are going to rival um. You might not have quite the ethnic diversity and rare diseases comining into the ER but I don't think that's anything to bicker about. I wonder how the schools' board scores compare? Does anyone know, I'm thinking this info is not released. Both have darn good residency match lists for the graduating class of '02. Guess it comes down to which city you'd rather live in. Well I hope I'm not coming across as defensive, think I'm used to sticking up for the underdog. Been doing that for about 4 yrs.....

i know usf is underrated. that's gonna change though..they're Very young, and on the up and up. by the time this year's incoming class graduates, i think they'll have developed a stronger rep, rivaling that of UM and UF. the people seemed cool too. different from UM, i guess because they're not all spread out all over the place like UM students..they have lecture all day at USF and the class just seemed more cohesive. definitely a good environment.

Cane•••••Hi Ms. Canes, the trip to Tampa went w/o a hitch. Have a new home now! Canes, I am still open to the idea of sharing a one bedroom w/ you  and of course I am pulling for you to come to USF.

Stopped by at the USFCOM office and everyone seem to be on some kinda happy drug or maybe it was payday. Well except for the not-so-friendly pre-matric secretary. How annoying! I PM'd you Canes w/ more detail. Anyone else moving to Tampa and have any questions, just let me know. They are compiling the new apartment list and will have it ready for the august people. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves   ....-simple

Simple, you're back!!!! I'm glad you got along with your roommate. Too bad we can't share that one bedroom we were talking about. :( J/K  When I go to Tampa, I'll check out the place that you are staying at. I'll let you know what I decide. By the way, I sent you a PM.

P.S. Have you enrolled in the COM 2006 Orientation that prepares you for the technological aspect of medical school? I didn't see your name up.
