Let me start by saying that I was recently voted as president as the allied health club president. The club consists of mainly those that wish to pursue a career in the health sciences. Too bad the club has sucked for the last couple of years. I want to really make an impression on this club so I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for me. Before, all they would do is go to 2 of the local medical schools (one per semester). It has really made me sick to my stomach how a club could go down the gutter like this.

I've already decided to make it a point to go to atleast 4 medical schools (one of them being osteopathic). Also, I want to have a lot of guest speakers come in from both the allopathic and osteopathic fields. I'm also hoping for a nurse, pharmacist, paramedic, and physical therapist come to speak about their individual professions. I also wanted to have a day to talk about MCAT and PCAT preparations (most of the students are pre-med/pre-pharm).

Now here's where I was hoping for your help. I really want this club to be the best that it could be. If you all had any ideas on stuff to do/talk about, I'd really appreciate the posts. Thanks a lot fellow pre-meds...I know you wont let me down!

Start a shadowing program in your club. It will give kids a lot of cool exposure.

When I did the whole pres. thing, I set up a couple of cool opportunities for my subjects. One was a surgery program, where you could get hands on experience doing surgeries on other premeds, like we would take turns. But that didn't work out. One kid forgot that you have to use anesthesia during open heart! 😱 Plus we were told by the authorities that we needed to be licensed, so they shut us down. Who knew. Same thing happened with the abortion clinic we set up in the treasurers garage. Apparently, you have to be licensed as well. So now we mostly just do bake sales. But we put hot sauce in the brownies!
