Hello, thanks for reading.

I grew up and was educated in Michigan. I like it here and don't want to leave. I'd also like to be trained at an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency. My step 1 score is 249. I may have one publication before my application is sent out.

Where do I have a shot? I know U of M is pretty much out of the question. Does anyone have any information on Henry Ford Main Campus' IM residency average USMLE step 1 score?

What are some other good options in the state? I'm feeling very lost and would love some help.

Thank you.

Your step 1 score is well above the average for Henry ford. That said, I am not sure what you'd need as a DO. a 249 should at a minimum get you in the door for an interveiw provided there aren't any red flags on your app.

Why is UofM out of the question?

UMich is highly competitive for IM (similar to Northwestern, UofChicago, CU-Denver), applying as a DO grad at this point in time would be a waste of money for the applicant.

I would try asking your inquiry in the Resident IM forum.

I wouldn't doubt that CU IM is not the most osteo friendly place on the planet, but I don't think I had ever heard of them being discussed as a particularly competitive place. Has that changed?

Ah you're right. My wording was incorrect, but what else do you expect from a MS-0 right? 😉 my bad!

Oh, I wasn't trying to sneakily correct you. I was really curious to see if the people outside of my circles had different thoughts about CU! I hope your last few days as an MS-0 are relaxing and fun....

Hahaha no no, honestly I added CU IM there in the aspect that it is "competitive" (or I guess barred off from) to DO grads.

I'm trying to do the best to relax but working 40 hrs doesn't help with that!

Good luck with 2nd year?!
