Hey folks,
Just curious if anyone has found a health insurance plan that is cheaper than the one offered by your school. Jefferson charges 2500 a year for health insurance...seems awfully steep to me. Is this just because we, as med students, take on extra risk? Or is it possible to save a few hundred bucks with an alternative (yet equal) plan. Keep in mind this is just for me...23 year old male...i don't have any dependents or anything. Thanks!

Depends on what your situation is and what they are offering. If it is full comprehensive coverage with Dental, Vision, and Pharm coverage then it's a pretty decent deal. You may able to find discounted health insurance with all the same benefits for a bit cheaper online somewhere but I would stick with a group plan like the one your school is offering.

Our school REQUIRES you to get the health insurance plan they offer unless you are covered on a spouse's or parents' plan. It has something to do with the group rate they were able to negotiate with the provider.
