This coming up year I'm taking physics, bio, and chem. Next summer I will be taking o-chem (both semesters condensed in one summer). Will it be realistic to study and take the MCAT right after completing o-chem? Or should I put off the MCAT to the following spring and delay my entry into med school by another year?

Inquiring minds need to know. 🙂

Condensed org?? May the force be with you. Personally I found Org II to be rather difficult, but that's just me.

My advice to you would be to hold off on the MCATs until the following year. You'll have a better grasp of all the material and applications by then. But if you feel you're prepared to take it next summer, them by all means, go for it!

I agree with the second poster. O-Chem is pretty important, and you would want to make sure that you knew the stuff before you took the test. However, I also think that if you think you are ready (i was in a similar situation with bio, and I took it this April without completing bio and did fine) then by all means, go for it.

I agree w/ Zin-something. Studying for the MCAT doesn't have to be exclusive from your coursework. Just take practice tests and keep up to date on the topics on the exam (they can be found on www.aamc.org/mcat). I did that and focused on my coursework (extra help on the topics on the test, of course) and it helped. Now that I am a year past all of the required courses, I've forgotten alot. Take the MCAt, but not if you're stressing over it.
