Dear Eikenhein,
I was hoping you might be able to help me out. I feel so helpless. I am the parent of a 24-year-old who has applied to 16 med schools around the US. He chose all top tiered schools as he always sets high goals for himself. I'm afraid that he has some unrealistic ones this time. Of the 16 schools, he got only one invitation for an interview and that was at the Univ. of Pittsburgh. He interviewed there at the end of January and was told by an interviewer that they would let him (and all of the others) know within 3 weeks. Well, it is now a little more than 4 weeks since the interview and still he has not been informed of their decision one way or the other.
He has done well with a 3.4 GPA in undergrad (as he suffered from depression during his first two years before getting help), a 3.95 GPA in grad school (Georgetown accelerated 11-month master's program), and a 37 on his MCAT's.
I'm worried that maybe he was supposed to send some sort of thank you letter for the interview although he tells me the medical school application process is much different than the "normal" employment process in that they interview a great deal more applicants and do not desire to be inundated with correspondence from that many.
Is this correct? Should he just sit tight and wait or should he call or something? Is there ANYTHING he can do?
Thank you so much!
