I just love this website. But I have question in return for reading yours.

I'm a sophmore in college planning on taking a year off next year. When I come back to college as a junior (2004-2005) I am going to be taking Physics and the MCAT in August. My main problem is that I've never takin Physics in Highschool at all. By taking a year off next year, what can I do in preparation for Physics once I come back my junior year in 2004-2005?

Thanks,

Take physics at another school in the summer. But be aware: Summer school physics is fast paced and requires alot of time to study for outside of the 3 hrs of class each day. But it will give you a head start.

dont overstress. physics really isnt that tough. just do the homeworks and do all your problem sets. at my school (and I think this holds for the majority of schools out there) the exam questions were just rewarmed homework questions - at most with a pseudo twist to make it look like it is harder than it actually is. the most important thing though is to keep up with the class and seek TA help immediately if you're having trouble with the math.

I never had physics in high school and I made an A in college. My college is pretty difficult too. No intro college physics class assumes physics knowledge a priori.

No, im not super smart.

No, i wasn't a nerd who studied all the time.

do what the other posters have said and if you still don't think that will be enough do something to brush up on math skills. Definitely know your algebra (manuiplating/solving equations with more the one variable), geometry, and depending on the class you may need a bit of calculus.

otherwise don't fret it won't be that bad.

I'd audit a summer class and really make yourself do all the work, reading, and problems. This way, whatever you mess up on won't count and you can learn a ton ahead of time. Don't stress yourself out by taking it at a really tough school or trying to get credit for it, just make yourself try to learn a bunch of it as if you were taking it in high school, then you'll be on par with a lot of your college classmates.

Hehehehe...."dudu" 😛

OK, sorry, I'm obviously 12 years old today.

Get "The Cartoon Guide to Physics" by Larry Gonick (spelling? sorry) and read a little bit each day. It's a great conceptual book, so you will go in comfortable with the subject.
