Am I royally screwed if I didn't do research and want to go into endo?

Hi everyone,

I'm a current D2 strongly interested in pursuing endo. I made the mistake of not doing research at the end of my first year because I was adamant about doing general dentistry. I also go to a school where my first year was medical, so I didn't have exposure to it. How screwed am I that I didn't do research? Is there a way I can make up for it?

Research is not required for Endo, you will be fine as long as everything else is good. Focus on your grades! Good luck. 👍🏻

It's really not to late to start as well. You can publish something in one year.

Contact your endo dept people and see if they have any projects you can hop on with

Spend time at your PG endo program. Show interest with the faculty and residents. It’s not uncommon to change your interests after graduating and practicing for a bit. That’s why endo is one is one of those specialties.

I didn't do any research and that didn't affect me at all. Granted I had 4 years of experience before applying, so that probably made up for it. If you get some research under your belt during 2nd and 3rd year you should be just fine. Establish some solid relationships with your endo faculty and others at your school since you'll be asking them for letters of rec soon.

Nah you’re not screwed. Keep your grades up, shadow, join AAE, attend meetings if you can ( they may be in person next year), show consistent interest. I mean if research opp presents itself again you could if you have time
