I've had 6 interviews thus far, and am now on five hold lists and waiting to hear back from one last school. Right now, I'm just waiting for another thin envelope.

Is this normal? And people get off of these, right?

So far, it's just been depressing.

I honestly thought my interviews went well. I have a 3.75 gpa and a 35 MCAT. Sure, I'm a non-traditional student. English major, art history minor. Only took a few more science courses than the pre-reqs. I've been involved in several volunteer programs and community service projects. College athlete. Have studied and worked abroad. Worked an office job in California. Been out of undergrad for several years.

None of these schools that have put me on hold have been top 25 med schools.

And right now, I'm waiting on Emory.

I'm just baffled. No real explanation why other than my somewhat unusual background.

At least I'm not alone. As I stated in another post, 3 interviews and still nothing. I thought I did great at one of the interviews and still ended up on the hold list. 🙁 Hang in there and hopefully we'll all hear some good news soon :luck:

You sound like you're a pretty good applicant. I noticed that you applied to Tulane. If you were waitlisted, I reccommend you send a letter of interest or a letter of intent to them. They really like students who show interest in their school.

I hope you aren't on the waitlists for too long :luck: There should be a lot of waitlist movement in April and May.

I've gotten a lot of waitlists, too. Of the six places I've heard from post-interview, I'm waitlisted at four. I really can't complain with two acceptances, though. Good luck!

Same goes for Wake Forest.....if you show strong interest, they look at you favorably too.....or so I have heard

:luck:

Thanks. 🙂 I haven't heard from any CA schools post-interview, though, so don't feel bad for me, yet. 👍 Good luck, I hope you get more interviews! :luck:

I'm right there with you... 7 interviews completed, 2 more to go, 0 acceptances. In fact I just received my first post-interview rejection today, which really blows.

I've also been put on hold post interview. So, can anyone answer the question as to whether or not we actually have a chance of being accepted. I called the school that I was put on hold at, and basically they said it wasn't the same as waitlisted and I can expect to hear something much later in the season. Not good for me. I got the feeling that being put on hold is actually a step below waitlist. sucks....

wow!! just checked your MDapplicants profile.

rejected from UVA..?? you think it's b/c you dropped out of their law school and they are holding it against you?

I don't get it, you seem like a strong applicant..maybe some of the schools couldn't offer you long walks on the beach..??

I am in the exact same position as you, interviewd at 5 schools, and have been waitlisted at 2 so far (Drexel, and Albany), been put on hold post interview at Downstates, and I am waiting on BU and NYMC. This whole process has been a nightmare. At first i thought the MCAT was bad, then i thought the applications were worse, and now I have come to the realization that it is the waiting that is the worst part. I dont think that i have ever had this much anxiety in my entire life. I cannot decide of SDN has helped me our stressed me out even more. Oh well, i guess this is just one of those life changing experiences...... good luck bud, just remember there are people out there just like u.. It could be worse, we could have gotten no interviews, then just imagine how ****ty we would feel. Hang in there everyone, its a long tortuous ride.
😱

really sorry to hear this freaker. Only thing I can imagine is that you are somehow coming off poorly during the interview. I would call one of the schools and ask to speak with someone over why you were put on hold.

As for UT, I would recommend expressing your interest to Diane and Nelson Strothers. It seems they are really looking for that in applicants and would probably help you a lot in getting off that waitlist.

am i the only person who has had one interview and one acceptance.. my application isnt very hott but my skirt-suit is smokin'! jk..i talk to much and laugh too loud..but they liked that arrrrr matey!

Hey, at least you've interviewed.

I've had one interview, been waitlisted (UVA).

One rejection, so far (Cornell, pbbbbbbb.)

And "on hold" at three UCs. Nothing from the other two.
Nothing from ANYWHERE else I applied, been complete since late Aug/Sept everywhere I applied.
I'm also non-trad. I'm 27, double-major in lit/wmst. Took a post-bac program. Have 4 years of clinical volunteer work, 4 years of EMT work, a KILLER internship/research experience, a 3.91 BCPM and 3.77 overall. MCAT is above 30, double-digits across the board. Lots of random volunteer and life experiences. Even been part of a national sports team.
WTF??
Any ideas as to what I should do? I wrote a letter of intent to one UC, but I feel like, do they all expect me to do this? What more can I do to show that I'm serious about being a physician?

I will be honest with you and say that withdrawing from law school may be setting off some warning bells. Everything else on your profile looks fantastic, and you say the interviews went well. You dropped out of law school, so how do the adcoms know that you will not drop out of med school as well, thereby denying someone else who is equally qualified a spot? I think that you should write some letters of interest at this point and address this question aggressively and convincingly. You have to show them that you are for medicine 1000%, and you will not quit. Good luck.

at least u had an interview man.....I have been put on HOLD FOR an interview.....imagine how I feel 😕 😕 😕

To the OP: I have to agree with Dandelion on your situation. Withdrawing from a law school is probably what is killing your app. I am currently in a masters program that I hate a little more everyday that goes by.... The only reason why I am not dropping it is because I dont want it to look bad on my med school apps. You should contact the schools, talk to the Deans if possible, and try to explain that you won't quit med school if you get in. :luck:

suggestion: Get a big poster and write with a big black poster I am on hold, put it on a stick, and put it in front of your hamlet so that everytime you come home you smile at the your past.

Yep, my personal statement was essentially a description of my reasons for leaving law school, which were entirely based on the realization that I was being called to medicine. I've had to field this question in all of my interviews, and lately, it seems to have worked best if I just bring up the subject during my interview before the question is even asked (e.g. "So you're probably worried about my having left law school and want to be assured that I won't do the same thing with medicine? Well, here goes...")

I'll keep plugging away. I have one more school near the top of my list from which I have not yet heard back from (launches prayer that good things come in the mail on January 31  ).

Best of luck to the rest of you. I do feel fortunate to have had as many interviews as I have. Still, that one acceptance that says that everything is going to be okay would be a God-send.
