I recently found out my great grandfather was a brazilian citizen and that I have a lot of family in South America, I never asked it never came up. Do you think that this constitutes URM?

URM is not necessarily your country of origin or your color. I am black and was asked at an interview why i was considering myself URM. You would think duh but URM is underrepresented in medicine. You might be white from a particular region in the country and little to no doctor of your type so you consider urself underrepresented!! If you have a relative from brazil it does not mean u are URM. Im sure everyone has some great grand... or ancestor from such places but its your life who you are and the condition of your life that make you URM not your color or country of origin.
