I've got a few questions for those who have done/are doing AMCAS:

1. What would you classify a tennis class as? "Other"?

2. How about a pre-health professions orientation course? Also "other"?

3. I'm taking one class this summer, which is technically 2002-2003. However, when I try that on AMCAS it places the semester BEFORE fall and spring. Any thoughts?

4. Are you guys putting down ALL the classes you plan to take next year?

5. I had AP credit, so after my first semester, I had like 33 hours. I would like to say that my second semester was also freshman year, but should I go ahead and say sophomore?

THANKS FOR THE HELP.

unsure, but it could fit under that. i had a surfing class and put it as other

2. How about a pre-health professions orientation course? Also "other"?

I also had a similar class and put it doen as other even though it was through the bio department. It doesn't make a difference since the class was pass fail

It just does that. Don't worry about it

Yes!

I entered with 35 units with AP and I listed myself as a sophmore. Since I was techinically classified as a sophmore.

Thanks for the advice!

on 5... i had a similar ap incoming amount but my school did not give me advanced standing in any way so i'm just leaving all my fr classes as such.

whoops. i meant to write why... somewhere in the instructions it basically says that if you are 4yr continual ugrad its likely that you should just classify 1st year-fr etc. essentially, I don't think it matters much. i just hope schools take a close look at the class numbers- all my fr Bs were second semester so and junior classes. 😎

I put all me PE/weird seminar courses as other...but I am wondering - AMCAS states to put the course number - but in my university we have stuff like

FREN 201 or PE 101 or BIOL 136.

Do I just put numbers or the letters too? Also, how do you classify classes like "psychobiology and cognition" or "Brain and behavior" - are these bio or psych? Taking them was a lot more bio then psych, but I really don't want to be "audited" by the AMCAS. How anal are they when processing the applications? Any help would be appreciated!

How anal are they? Completely. Thats the whole point of what they are doing is to provide a verified transcript service. So they will throw a flag if what you put down something other than whats on your transcript. It doesn't matter therefore whether "Brain and behaviour" seemed more bio or more psych, only what it is classed as on your transcript. If it appears as BIO 304 (or whatever) put it in AMCAS as BIO. If it appears as PSY put it as other. They'll only change it for you if you don't!

Be careful here, there is a reason it's doing that. It is explained in the guide why it does this and you NEED to fix it. If I remember offhand - you are putting the new quarter (sem) like it started in Dec or so, but they want you to enter it like it started in January. So DO fix this.
Go look in the guide - if you can't find it, PM me and I will give you the exact page number where it is at, I have it written down and will look it up if needed.

I thought this concerned only people with trimesters instead of semesters. I might be wrong though.
