Well, after giving the "specialists" another week, I thought I'd check for the infamous red X's, but they weren't there.

I did notice that they changed the main page, and you no longer choose which server you're routed to. I also noticed that they have posted a list of schools with extended deadlines for applications. Maybe they're actually doing something at AMCAS other than counting all the money they suckered us out of??? 😉

Just thought I'd share an interesting quote my prof had for us today:

"A 'Specialist' is someone who learns more & more about less & less until they know everything about nothing."

Can't get much truer than that.

Interesting......haven't looked at that page since I was verified. When did you submit, jamier2? You really ought to take matters into your own hands and contact Saint Nancy and get yourself verified!

It isn't yet time for me to apply, so while I'm familiar with AMCAS, I'm not all that familiar with how it works or what they do. Are all the problems people have had common every year, or is it this year that they can't seem to get it together?

I submitted in the middle of the pack on 7/16. I'm not too worried about when they verify my app, because I've already been accepted at my favorite school. I am actually hoping that they verify more of those who are so desperately waiting for verification to hear from some schools.

If I don't get it by the end of November, then I'll have to do like so many others and contact my friendly neighborhood law office, as that's the only method that seems to spur AMCAS into any action at all. 🙂

Jamier2, how kind of you. 🙂 Congrats on your acceptance! I saw your post on PR. Sounds like you've had quite the journey!

That's very nice of you Jamier. I'm one of those waiting, submitted July 20th. I emailed "Saint Nancy" Monday and haven't seen or heard a thing. Oh, well...I'm used to failure by now.

Adam, did you threaten to take legal action? That seems to be what gets them moving! And hey, what's with I'm used to failure by now? A little positive thinking, please! 😉 🙂

Yeah, I mentioned the possibility of legal action. But, like I said, when it comes to dealing with AMCAS I'm used to failure. Maybe that's the lesson: once some of those rejections come around it won't be that big a deal since we'll all be used to it.

chadleez1 - it's just this year since AMCAS tried to get online without thinking to keep the paper app around just in case. Next year will probably be different (more schools may not use AMCAS at all...)

SWEET! Exactly 3 months ago I hit the dreaded button and submitted my application. AND NOW, still no activity. 🙁 Time to celebrate!! 😡 🙁 😕

After hearing nothing from Nancy after a couple of days, I sent another email yesterday. It was way more forceful, and I basically said that if I didn't get my app processed by next week they'd be hearing from my lawyer. My first email was more pleading in nature. In any event, it seems to have worked. I got a response this morning from Nancy Tillinghast, and now I have red X's. I even got an email from AMCAS which was a repeat of the one that says you successfully submitted and fees were paid. Wierd. Anyhow, the moral is...be forcefull...being nice doesn't pay 🙂

Hopefully the red X's will be gone and I'll be fully processed by the end of the week. Woohoo!

Adam

Sweet, a week after I tell them twice to put me on the priority list, I get those red X's!! 🙂
YEAH! be persistant.

I haven't had much luck with Nancy. She didn't return my forceful but respectful e-mail.

My big concern now is that some schools have a transcript deadline of Oct. 22. Although I mailed transcripts in mid-June and received confirmation of receipt (twice, once in August and once in September) I then received a e-mail saying they "did not receive" my transcripts on Oct 11.

I resent the transcripts on Oct. 12 but am unsure if they will arrive in time. My university does not have a rush service and could not guarantee getting the transcripts out any sooner than the Oct. 19. Four days is just not long enough for mail from Alaska to reach Washington, D.C.

AMCAS may force me to pass up on all the schools with an Oct 22 deadline. Wasted money and time do to incompetence...such a pity.

mpp:

send another email. Make sure you tell Nancy how frustrated you are, and how many times you've called/written the aamc people. Also, definitely tell her about the transcript deal, and ask if she can help. Then threaten to sue for the money that'll cost you etc. And set a deadline, like next week or something...Just keep trying...hopefully it'll work.

Adam

Rumit,

Thanks for the advice. In my e-mail I discussed my frustration and even attached a multitude of e-mails that I had sent (more than 20 since September 25) and that I had never received a reply. I explained the October 22 deadline. Since my last post I received an e-mail that someone was "looking into the matter." We'll see what happens. Thanks again.
