What is the difference (and conversion) for credit hours and semester hours?

For example, If my general chem course if 3 units (the "normal" number of units for a class at my Univ.) are those semester hours or credit hours?

thanks for any help!

I think if your gen. chem course is 3 credit hours then your semester hours are the same. The conversion seems to be for those crazy liberal arts colleges that have 1 credit hour = 4 semester hours. The credit hours are what show up on your transciprt, and then semester hours are the general scheme. Seems like you're already on the general, so i wouldn't worry about it.
