Hi,

I was just wondering, how many med schools does the AMCAS forms allow you to apply to? is there a limit? I am applying to around 20 schools...

I don't think there's a limit - I'm applying to about 25; last year people applyed to 40+ without problems (too bad they don't put a cap on cost though!)

OMG! 40...58 schools! Do you know if those people got in anywhere? That a lot of $$$ flow in applications. I'm worrying about paying for 18 schools.

Check out this thread and realize that this just lists the number of secondaries completed. Some of these people applied to more initially but did not complete all their secondaries. Also, the average cost of filing the secondary application is around $45. So, for the people with 40 secondaries completed, their application expenses alone were more than $3,000...not to mention travel expenses for interviews, etc.

I remember someone long ago posting somewhere else about how the application process favors those with money and this is very true. Certainly there are some fee waivers availble for the needy but the application process is incredibly expensive...financially, emotionally, and physically.

By the way, the 58-applicant SDNer is not listed here.

Best wishes to all of those going through it this year...

I know this has been asked several times, but do the schools you apply to know what other ones you applied to too?

No, but sometimes they ask at the interview.

Q32. How and when will medical schools see the schools that applicants designate?

A32. When they receive the application from AMCAS. Schools only see their own
designation, not other medical school designations ? that is ? until the Multiple
Acceptance List is made available each spring. Then, schools can see where their
accepted applicants hold acceptances.
