just wanted to vent some good feelings, and share a couple thoughts.

so i finally got through the phone lines (after only 30 minutes of waiting! lucky me). i only had to sit through 10 iterations of "our specialists are still assisting other callers...." SPECIALISTS? i'm not so sure i'd call them that. my experience so far has led me to conclude that i know more about the AMCAS process than they do. I'd like to sit in on a "AMCAS Specialist Training Session."

I called to confirm that they had all 3 of my transcripts, and lo and behold, they didn't lose a single one! amazing.

Then i casually asked when transmission would begin to the med schools. And, reading straight from her manual, she said "The process and time frames are identical to last year's. Nothing has changed. It will take 4-6 weeks from the date of submission for med schools to receive your application." HA. "nothing has changed"? oh, i guess it was just me. "4-6 weeks"? Is that just a clever way for AMCAS to cover their behinds? obviously, it would have taken 4-6 weeks last year, since med schools received paper copies from AMCAS. but this year? She should have said "The process will take 4-6 weeks. But that's only because we need 4-6 weeks to get our act together. The actual transmission will take under 1 hour, or roughly 5 minutes per med school." That would have been the honest answer.

anyway, it was a hell of a relief they had everything from me. sit tight ya'll, they'll get it right eventually.

(don't ask how much my phone bill was...i was calling from abroad, 'nuff said)

Congrats on them getting all your transcripts! You sure are lucky! :)

I had five transcripts sent to AMCAS, and as of yesterday, they have two. They claim to have one of them twice (which is impossible) so I just know this is going to be majorly screwed up.

I also had my transcripts sent to TMDSAS (Texas schools) a week after I had them sent to AMCAS, and they have four of the five. All I have to do is log on to a website and enter my ID number to see that. AMCAS should take a look at the TMDSAS application to see how things should be done!

My thoughts exactly. Surely AMCAS new that the TMDSAS has already used a web app in the past. Yet I somehow think they did not even bother to look at it.

You'd think that web programmers undertaking such a big project would at least look around to other good examples to see how to do it. The TMDSAS is not as fancy as the AMCAS app, but it works ten times better and has an online status check.
