Hey, I was just wondering what Canadian med schools take American students. Is it tougher to get into a Canadian school? Are the requirments the same? Is the citizenship thing a big deal? Thanks for the info...

McGill is your best bet. My friend is going there. It is hard to get into Canadian schools as an American. She also applied to Univ. of Toronto but they only take a couple of people I believe.

The generalization is that it's harder to get into Canadian schools with McGill consistently offering the most seats/class, but competitive nonetheless. Other Canadian schools may take 1-2/class.

Funny thing was that I only got into the one Canadian school I applied to vs. plenty of US schools with my stats as a reapplicant from California... anyhow, I went to Memorial which at the time accepted 9-10 US students... now it's more like 1-2/yr.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I think I'll be nothing more than an average applicant, so my chances are slim to none....

Yeah, citizenship is a big deal. Hell, provincial residency is a big deal (if you think out-of-state restrictions are severe in some US med schools, you haven't seen anything yet 🙁 ) UBC takes over 200 students a year into its 3-campus program and only about 4 from outside BC!

McGill is for sure the best bet. The only others I can think of are Memorial, Toronto and maybe McMaster or Calgary.

Call the schools and find out...applications are usually due in October.

Good luck! If you get into McGill or Toronto, you'll get an amazing education!
