American Healthcare Post-Covid

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, a lot of Europe has more of the federal government involved in both aspects, and you know what, they aren't exactly producing a bunch of dump people nor is everyone there dying of disease at an early age due to lack of proper healthcare.

If our educational system is lowly performing, it's because its because it's left to the people and not the federal government to come up with a uniform plan.

Let's face it. In this country, too many people care about nothing but making as much money as possible, don't care to help the people less in need, or at the minimum, give them access to equal education and then complain that those people can't pull their bootstraps on and climb the economic ladder and are not "personally responsible".
Come on. Go back to crying about your stocks.

i think a lot of that would be good if it happens. but right now i cant imagine our government succeed with that. i think our government is extremely corrupt and bought out by corporations, or self interests. even with the stimulus that just passed, poor people are being disadvantaged.

the other important thing to note is that it's not all solveable by government. it is extremely important to instill a culture of responsbility in american people. its a huge problem thats related to many other problems. i know teachers who teach in poor areas and QUIT because they get so frustrated. the students dont listen, they yell, they get into fights, and the teachers dont get any support from parents. i dont care how much money you pump in, its not going to help much. its like mark zuckerberg donating 100m to a school district in NJ. it QUICKLY got depleted and had NOTHING to show for it.

Yeah, a lot of children need their parents to give them a good old butt whipping and parents need to train them to be respectful and mindful of adults. And teachers have no disciplinary authority either which sucks.
I don't want to think that Corruption is rampant here because it's so much more blatantly corrupt in my home country, however, it is there, just more hush hush. And yes, because of self interest with a prime example in this situation of PPE going overseas to the best bidder.

What about Healthcare? How do we avoid the same low level of performance in our healthcare system that we see in our educational system? Is the answer more government or more personal responsibility? You already know the answer.
Relax Blade, you have the same low level of healthcare as we do in Europe.

What is this Europe business about? There is no Europe they way you talk about it.

It's not various parts of a whole. There is no relation at all between all of it. Every country in it has been deadly enemies of its neighbour for 800 years. The guys 2 miles across the border from us, if we had half a chance we'd burn them out of it for what they did to us.

We share no culture, no heritage, no values, no politics, and certainly no common health care system or paradigms . We literally killed each other for 25 generations. France is as different to Germany as the US is to the north pole.

The only thing we share is the euro, and your notion of what you think Europe is

I think there’s no relationship between butt whooping and performance. I was never whooped nor did I ever whoop my daughter. If you’re resorting to whooping, you’ve lost the game already IMO.

Works from where I come from. Go to an African country and see how many of those kids are disrespectful to adults like plenty are here. I can’t speak for the whole continent but for sure, but we do tend to be similar in that regard.

Different strokes for different folks.

It does crack me up being from the South and hear a Caucasian person threaten to whoop their kids. We don’t play down here!

I came from a butt whooping culture and yes there are some positives but frequently the butt shopping’s happened for what I perceived to be minor infractions. So I decided not to give a **** because a butt whooping happened for basically being a child and being around my over worked and impatient parents. We also lived in a ****ty neighborhood so parents were afraid of me straying off the path they wanted me to go.

I don’t beat my kids but that impatience my parents had has been passed on to me and I’m trying to fix that . Now our kids don’t run the show we do but we give leeway for kids being kids. We don’t tolerate disrespect others and we let them know what the right and wrong way of handling that situation is. They also don’t get everything they desire just because we can afford to. Teaching and showing them the proper way to do things is the way to raise respectful adults . Unfortunately many families are dysfunctional or lack of involvement from parents that a kid acting immature and rebellious becomes ingrained in them as adults…. and YES the disparity among wealthy and not are bigger now than ever. The best neighborhoods and best public schools are simply priced out of the average american financial ability.

Just another stupid Republican politician. I’m sorry to the moderators because our posts are not supposed to be political, but Nimbus started it. 🤣

Stefanik is an idiot. Medicare was decried in the 60’s as socialism. Now many doctors love it and depend on it.

Note I am against “Medicare for all”. We get hosed relative to others and M4A is just a race to the bottom.

Medicare fueled and enabled a huge increase in healthcare spending. Anybody who works in healthcare is a beneficiary of that. Most of the hospitals where we work would not exist without Medicare. I agree anesthesia got shafted when they sliced the pie but that can be fixed. It’s hard to predict all the effects of these programs.

There will be no “post Covid” in this country full of selfish people. I am intubating blue 20somethings who refuse to get vaccinated. Our Covid ICU is hopping and locums needs are starting to come back. And the families are hoping for a miracle. WWell the miracle was the Vaccine.
I am getting PTSD flashbacks and am personally sick of this crap. My PA and one of my vaccinated RNs got the Covid. PA was sick w myalgias and lethargy. I live w an elderly parent who’s immunocompromised. These antivaxxers need to be detained somewhere away from the rest of us. We shouldn’t be bothered with them as patients honestly. Put them in a ward and let nature take its course.

Choco, I certainly do feel your frustration as well. I lost a family member to this disease. Before the vaccine was available. To see people turn the vaccine into a political statement disgusts me.
Sadly I feel that this is more evidence that America has given up its role as a world leader and instead become just another banana republic.

Idiots. Are we supposed to feel sorry for them? I am all out of empathy. I wish they would just stay at home and cure themselves. We are tired of these people straining our system and exposing the vulnerable and the rest of us to this thing.

Yep… a bunch of chest beating far right rhetoric about socialism and government control that takes a sharp turn when they get sick to the amazing power of prayers and Jesus and miracles. The vaccine wasn’t a miracle mind you and all the icu and rehab resources they gobble up subsidized by their insurance plan isn’t socialist. And if the prayers work they get to live and vote for more trump endorsed republicans. American democracy in action what an amazing example we set. If they don’t make it then they stiff the hospital or insurance company with a four to six figure bill and everyone is so sad about the completely avoidable tragedy.

Personally speaking, I've always tried my best to empathize with most folks on the other end of the spectrum as myself. I even understand voting for Trump in some ways. But lately, I just have zero ability to empathize with the unvaccinated. Literally had an otherwise healthy 28 year old in my ICU on ECMO the other day. I keep trying to see it out of their shoes and I just don't get it.

In an overburdened, rationing situation these unvaccinated people should be at thr back of the line. Honestly why are they even coming to the hospitals when they don't believe in medicine or science.

DeSantis is a piece of **** and he needs to be taken down. It's unbelievable how much damage these politicians are doing to appease their base.
The right has collapsed in to a heap of craven conspiracy driven policy but because #murca they are going to win elections because of it and that is all that matters. Gerrymander the hell out of every state they control while scotus lets it happen and viola we have minority single party rule in every government branch for generations to come Where the party policy essentially consists of what the orange clown troll deems appropriate at that given moment.

Currently this consists of the belief that society should be sacrificed for the individual to make critical life altering decisions like whether or not to put a ****ing piece of paper over their stupid mouths or if they can spare 40 minutes out of their busy schedules to go get a free near risk free injection that will prevent them from costing the healthcare system hundreds of thousands of dollars. And of course the events of 1/6 if they happened didn’t mean anything serious and if they did it was because of satan incarnate Nancy pelosi who orchestrated the whole thing.

How long we stay afloat with the lunatics running the asylum is anyone’s guess…
