I was just curious on what the consensus is about biotech internships for a pre med student versus a SURF program. I have just been offered a great internship at Amgen although i am unsure how this is viewed by adcoms in comparison to SURF programs

Do what you want to do, not what you think adcoms will like the best. What they seem to like is to see a student who's passionate about something in and out of medicine - if you approach this activity as a checkbox, it'll show and it'll mean that much less to your application.
