Hello colleagues,
When caring for patients with epilepsy, one often needs to slowly taper up or taper down the dose of an anticonvulsant so as to avoid side effects. It can sometimes take 4-6 weeks to reach the final dose. Often during a clinic visit, designing such a medication taper calendar can be time consuming. Patients may get confused or frustrated, and this may lead to errors in correct medication dosage. Patients with cognitive impairments and patients whose first language is not English may be most affected by this problem.
I created a web app at www.epitaper.com. In this website, you can create a medication calendar and design a taper schedule. Simply enter the name of the medication, the start and end-date, starting dose and ending dose, step wise increments in dose and the duration of each step up.
I would love to get some feedback from all of you about how well this web app is working. If you identify any bugs, please let me know so I can make the necessary fixes.
Note that it is completely free, and the calendar print out does not include name, DOB or MRN or any such identifying information. Of course, as you can imagine, this app has relevance outside of just epilepsy (e.g., designing a long prednisone wean, etc.).
Good luck!
