Another financial aid question... sigh

As if I didn't have enough to worry about...

Anyway, I'm having problems filing a renewal FAFSA. I requested my PIN and got it recently, but when I type in my information, it says that it can't find my file. I've done the renewal thing before when I was in undergrad-- could it be that since I'm taking a year off and am not in school this year (and hence didn't file a FAFSA for the current school year), my file was blanked? Does this mean I have to file a regular (non-renewal) form all over again?

Probably if you got a new PIN, it's looking at you as a brand new applicant.

I requested a PIN, and I got the same one I used when for my renewal FAFSA when I was still in school.

Have you called their 800 number? They are very helpful. 1-800-433-3243.

I was in the same boat...I think you can only do a renewal if you applied last year. I applied a couple of years ago but not last year, so if there is anytime off it isn't a renewal any more. Honestly the only thing the renewal saves is typing in your address so it only takes a couple more minutes to do the whole app.
