I am really enjoying this random process of application.
After getting an invite from Vanderbilt without secondary, I got another one from AECOM today.
I am sure they saw my MCAT score this time because they asked me to fax it in.
I just can't believe it. I am an international (canadian) as well.

Legi, do you have a stellar GPA? What do you think they see in your application? Do you really think this is a random process? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

That's awesome, Legi!! BTW, it's good to hear from you again. I doubt you were randomly picked to be interviewed. These schools like what they see on your apps. Keep us updated.

Congratulations Legi! I got a rejection from AECOM. At least I now know their application involves more than just numbers! Good luck at the interview.

Quick question: what qualifies one as an ESL student? I graduated college, and didn't have to do foreign language b/c English is my second language, and that notation is made on my transcript.
Does that qualify me as an ESL student? Just checking, b/c it seems as though it helps to have english be your second language when you apply.

    Thanks in advance.

Legi - I always thought you were female! :D that's Ok, everyone thought I was male, and kept thinking so even after I corrected them several times!! :D I agree with Santa Claus (aka pendulum) that it's nice to hear from you again!!!
:) And I'm glad you're enjoying this random process this year!! :D

I think your GPA qualifies as "stellar" not just above average! :p

Ciardeme - I agree with Legi that the process is essentially random in many respects (not completely, of course). See my post in the "Exactly Opposite" thread.

Hey Legi, are you at Dartmouth?

Maybe this should go into a new thread, but what do you, or anyone else for that matter, feel about applying as an Ivy student? Do you think it gives you any sort of advantage? I'm just curious because there seems to have been a spate of newspaper articles recently in my home area about how going to selective high schools (magnet, private) doesn't seem to help people get into better colleges. I respectfully disagree, to an extent, but that's just IMHO...

    Incendiary,

No, I'm not at Princeton. Though, I wish. My hometown is NJ. Anyways, moving on to your next question. I think coming from good school does matter in some ways. My bf went to Choate and Yale knows how good Choate is and they accept alot of kids from that high school. I mean, ALOT. I can ask my bf how many kids from his class got into Yale if you want.
I know some people on SDN will definitely disagree with me, but I think it does help to have come from Ivy or other Ivy-caliber schools. I know this guy who went to Ivy Med. He graduated from Ivy undergrad. He said when he went for an interview, he got waitlisted. Then, he wrote a letter how much he wants to go to that school like everybody else does. He got a second interview with this Dr. who was also an Ivy grad (same Ivy). All he had to do was chat with the dean about how great their Ivy school is and the person said, "What are you going to do if I print out the acceptance letter for you right now?" He signed and he was in.
I checked the first year student profile given to Columbia interviwees from a friend of mine. I was surprised to see that there are tons and tons of people from Harvard and Yale and other Ivys and just a handful of state school kids. Even the ratio of faculty members are such that half of them are Harvarians and Yalies.
To make a long story short, if you are decent student from Ivys and do well on MCAT, you have a good shot.

    Ciardeme,

Cool, another Jersey person. Do you know Bridgewater Commons, a really cool mall? I live maybe 15 minutes away from the mall. :)

Smudgemuffin, of course i know where that Mall is! This is NJ and we all know where things are in proximity to exits on the Garden state parkway or Turnpike...or a mall for that matter. Nice to know another NJ poster on this board. Are you applying to RWJ and UMDNJ?
