****, i hate to do this, i know its lame and i never thought i would, but i'm having troubles deciding, i think i know what i want, but damn it.
okay, the choices are Drexel vs Penn State vs MCW

the PA schools are 5hrs from my relatives, MCW is 2 hrs from my gf's parents. the family thing is what is screwing me up i think. thanks for any info, i'm not looking for anyone to make the decision for me, i'm just looking for input.

Hi moskeeto,
how long have you and gf been together?
family aside, which school do you like better?

sunflower79 🙂

Ithought this was another vic secret thread and I was going to throw in my bid from the new shaping demi. But anyway --looks like drexel is raking in the votes. I am thinking of putting up a post too--- because Temple called this morning and I just don't know waht to do.

my gf and I have been together for 7 years, so having her family close would help erase some of the guilt of making her leave california and follow me. Honestly, i think i like MCW best but i can't really figure out if its just because i want to like it so much for the sake of my relationship. Penn State has a ton of votes now. i should have asked people to give their reasoning. I didn't get a chance to really experience Penn State becuase I was there during a snow storm, i just know it was really a small boring town. Damn it, i've got to decide soon.
sorry to get your hopes up about victoria secrets jm, i'm a fredericks of hollywood girl myself. 😛 i never interviewed at temple so i can't give you any advice on that one. thats a tough call since they are both in the same city.

good luck in deciding - I know that it is rough

(hey I have this urge to call you skeeter...)

well I dunno the schools enough to comment, honestly. What is important to you? obviously your gf is a factor. What about other ones?

possible factors:
cost
weather
surrounding city
curriculum
reputation
etc.

if the schools all look the same to you then just go with mcw and don't look back! 🙂 but it sounds like you have second thoughts about mcw?

keep posting your thoughts skeeter... er, moskeeto! 🙂

It just occurred to me going to a school in part for your gf's sake is a HUGE step....

what does she think?

Just make sure you don't go to mcw unless you like the school for its own sake. 🙂

thanks sunflower. you rock. i think she's upset about me going just for her. thats why i'm doing this huge hesitation. I thought i wanted to go to MCW for me and then she started in on how she didn't want it to be because of her and now i'm wondering if thats the real reason i want to go there. i think the cirriculum is pretty much the same at them all with a little bit of difference. they'll all be cold as hell compared to here. Philly wins best location hands down, but i can see some pluses to milwaukee. i don't really care about reputation, but mcw is ranked higher. the only thing i think about reputation-wise is I'd like for my furture patients to have heard of where i went to school and i don't think they will, but its not that big of a deal. i should call my grandpa and ask him, he knows everything.
thanks for the advice,
skeeter, damn, i mean, moskeeto

no prob! 😀 just go with your gut.
let us know what you decide 🙂

Hey Moskeeto,

I think you should consider the patient population at the schools you are thinking about. That will dictate much of your last two years and will be pivotal in exposing you to the diffrent subspecialties.

For instance Penn State is very rural and even though it is a level 1 trauma center, you might not see the diversity of cases that you would in philly at Drexel (I don't know much about MCW). That being said, I think all of those places are great choices and you are going to get a great education regardless.

As for you and your gf, thats tough, but I think that philly or milwaukee would be easier on your gf than being relativley secluded in Hershey. I wish you guys luck, and let us know what you decide! 🙂 🙂 🙂

hey. also talk to as many docs as you know for their opinion! 🙂 When I had to decide between schools I asked all the ones I saw at work 😀

okay, i've talked with some people. the docs i talked to both said MCW as did my grandparents. my mom was torn between PSU and MCW and SDN seems to be pretty much against MCW, i wasn't expecting that.

You must realize that there are about three times as many Pennsylvanians as there are Wisconsinites on this message board, if not more. The average voter on that list probably doesn't even know one lick about any one of the three choices(I don't.)

Not me, I think that it should come down to MCW and Penn State. I interviewed at PSU and Drexel and PSU is the better school to go to in my opinion even though Philly does rock. MCW has a pretty solid national reputation, better than PSU. They were ranked in the top 50 a couple of years ago, which would mean that MCW would be the better school to go to over PSU if you are into rankings like most people. Personally, if it came down to MCW and PSU for me, I would choose MCW because although PSU is a great school, its rural location in Hershey won't be that fun and the patient experiences might not be as diverse compared to what you would see at MCW. The docs you talked to probably know what they are talking about when they suggested you pick MCW. Plus, MCW is where you want to go for yourself. You are going to medical school for your own medical education not your gf's. This is a big step for you and I think that those around you should respect that and support your decision wherever you decide to go. Good luck on your decision, it is tough.
