Any 30+ MCAT takers use EK only?

medical school is so much anxiety from studying for the MCAT, taking the MCAT, waiting for scores, interviews, waiting to get acceptances, then med school becomes another story, then residency

Anyway, I am doing everything in my power to avoid buying anything more than what I purchased already:
Audio Osmosis
EK complete study package
EK 101 Verbal
will get the AAMC 3-7

I'm trying to convince myself i do not need anything else but a good study schedule

I got above a 30. I only used the EK package, 1001 Chem and 1001 physics, the EK practice exam, plus AAMC 3-6. That's ALL I used and it worked out well.

I took the test last august and took a kaplan course and got 32O (11 V, 11 PS, 10 BS). this time around I studied intensively off of EK, especially there bio material. Did AAMC tests again, I had already done them last summer but did them again. (that is a good study tactic by the way). little bit of review of Kaplan's materials but mostly EK and got a 35Q (11 v, 11PS, 13 BS). bottom line EK's bio materials kick ass!

These were all I used. Just the EK books and AAMC practice tests. Not the 1001 Q's books. Didn't have time. Got 32Q (11P, 10V, 11B).

33Q--took the course here in Chicago. We used the textbooks, and I got the 1001 series as well (except for bio, b/c it wasn't out yet). I also listened to some of the Audio Osmosis. I tried to look over some Kaplan stuff, but I didn't end up using any of it. I highly recommend EK materials.

got through listening to the AO CD's three times over eight weeks before the test, studied the big package of books in earnest for three weeks, took aamc practice test #7 a week before the big day, got a 30 on that, reviewed some of the formulas and such over that last week and took the beast - 30Q

EK's the best if you're one of those types that is incapable of cramming in a ton of info. It presents all you need to know and more, but tells you in the margins just how important each topic is based on the number of questions historically asked pertaining to each topic.

I used EK materials for the April test and made a 34R. I think the best thing to do is study the EK material and if there are topics in EK that you don't understand due to the brevity then break out the ole textbooks and review them there, espescially in the biology sections where the material is sometimes too condensed. Do that and I think you'll be just fine. Good luck

I do recommend them. The way I see it, having the passage there on the real exam helps you with extra information. Plus, there are free-standing questions on the MCAT as well, so why not practice it? I felt that the questions in those books helped me cement stuff that I was having trouble with in the EK textbooks. Just my two cents! 🙂

Just wondering.... did you guys follow the EK home study guide? How many hours of studying a day?

If you want you can list some advice and/or experience.... i.e. lots of practice questions, classes that you took that helped... etc...

I've already said this at another post, but I am sooo adament to promote EK!
I reviewed TPR and Kaplan materials before I settled on a study guide. I found them boring and mundane. I came across EK and was most interested in the CD's. I only used EK cd's and books to study. I started in February, studied about 1 hr/day and listened to the CD's every time I was in my car. I never took one practice test ( I must have undiagnosed ADD, because I just could not sit through those tests!!!!) However, I think the books give a lot of good questions throughout the chapters to practice. I got a healthy 30+ score on my first shot, and as I said in other post, I felt very well prepared and totally unsuprised by MCAT! Good luck and mostly RELAX!!!!

I studied last August with a few review books from Amazon, for about 3 weeks, and made a 10-V, 9-BS, 7-PS, R-WS. I am in grad school in a bio science so I tried to focus on the PS and obviously didn't get it right.

This time around, I used the EK set (not the newest edition, the one before it), the EK 1001 in PS and Ochem, and AAMC 3-6. I got a 11-V, 14-BS, 12-PS, R-WS. I used the home study guide loosely, but waited on the 1001 books and the AAMC exams until the end. I didn't really do anything other than the EK book for a day or two at the beginning for VR. I used the 1001 books (every third problem) at the end to get my speed up on basic concepts and identify areas that were still week. I studied about 5-6 hours a day, for 10 weeks. I did the EK books in 8 weeks and saved the last two weeks for 1001/AAMC tests. Also, I only did the AAMC tests in one sitting, at the library (sans the writing sample).

Anyway, I think EK is the real deal, as long as you really try to learn as much as possible from the books.

BTW, I will be selling all of my material if anyone is interested 😉

did pretty much the same thing with 34q also.. studied the ek materials and then took all the aamc exams..

I mainly used EK 101 Verbal, EK complete study guide, and EK physics 1001 and got a 33Q.

Anyhow word of advice to those who are thinking about using EK material. It is not some holy grail type study guides. You will have to put in the time as you would with any other material. Good luck. And remember to practice, practice and practice.
