I just want to send love to all the black males considering medicine or already in medicine. It seems like we are the only ones that realize that there are not many of us in medicine. The AAMC stats are pretty grim. When you go on the interview tour for med school it is all too obvious. But, from what I have experienced thus far in my journey, there is nothing but solidarity among brothas in medicine. I think this is a good sign for the future. We all know that medicine is an "ol' boys club." This means we've got to look out for those of us up in coming through the ranks whether it be high school, pre-med, med school, residency and beyond. Younger guys, don't be afraid to reach out to the older guys about anything. Older guys, you should always be looking for ways to mentor the younger guys. It is really the only way for the situation to get better. Best wishes to everyone wherever you may be in your medical training. Most definitely keep you eyes on the prize.
