Hey everyone! Is anyone out there that may have done something creative or may have any ideas for being chosen as a last minute alternate. I was placed on the alternate list at Jefferson a few months ago and I know its getting to be crunch time. I REALLY love this school and if anyone is out there that was either waitlisted there or anywhere (preferably where there alternate lists are not ranked) and ended up getting an offer, could you please help?! Thanks and good luck to everyone! God bless...

What worked for me was calling and emailing the school to let them know how much I liked them versus the school that I was accepted to. I think what helped my case was that my 2nd choice school began before the ones that I was more interested in, so I pretty much gave my top choices an "ultimatum"...ie If you guys want me, its now or never! I think it really helped! Most schools are interested in you if you are waitlisted and if they have an unranked waitlist, making them aware of any special circumstances can work in your favor.

good luck!

Yep, I did the ultimatum thing too. Definitely helped speed things along; literally hours later I was accepted.

Make sure to have the leverage though. It would suck if you were not exactly truthful, and they called your Bluff, plus they rejected you! 😱 😀 😉

what about if you have no other acceptances? Can you tell them that if you do not get accepted you will not apply again next year...

I've heard that if you are on the waitlist and you have no other acceptances, you can negotiate an acceptance for the following year, as long as you promise not to go anywhere else. good luck 🙂

I was on the waitlist for one school, when I interviewed at Meharry. When I went for my interview, I knew that this was the school I wanted to attend this fall. When I found out that I was on the waitlist I was so hurt, but more determined. So I started to look on the web for clues on what to do. I found a really good site, but I don't remember the link.
When I found out that I only had about 3 weeks to convince Meharry how bad I wanted to get in, I went to work. I literally had an attack on Meharry. The first week I wrote a general letter, letting them know they were my first choice. I sent it to the admissions office and the dean of admissions. That letter didn't work too well and I got discouraged. Then I wrote the letter of all letters. I threw my pride out the window and told them how bad I wanted to be in the school. My best friend proofed if and she wanted to come to the school. I sent it to the dean of admissions, the dean of the school of medicine, the head of th admissions office and committee. That same day I received a phone call stating that I had got in. (and to be here in a week).
I also said a lot of prayers. This process taught has strengthen my faith in God, because my acceptance is yet more evidence that He can do everything. 😀 . Hope this helps, Good luck.

I got off the waitlist at Jefferson a few weeks ago. The key for me was to constantly update my application with significant updates (i.e. grades, awards). If you have been doing that then all you can really do is cross your fingers and hope. It might also be time to start looking at alternatives because orientation at Jeff starts in a week and a half.
