Anyone know what a "competitive" Step1 score would be for UIC/Rush/Loyola IM programs?

I'm interested in UIC/Rush/Loyola (NU or UoC might be out of my league), but am worried that my Step1 scores might not be up to par.

I scored 217 on Step1, and have fairly average clerkship grades (Pass in IM, HP and Honors in other 2). Research, but no publication.

I heard a rumor that Rush's IM spots went unfilled? Is that true? Any success stories with similar stats? Appreciate it.

I think you'll be fine with your step I score...u will prob rank at one of the three you listed above, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply ocean11. Would a 'pass' only on my IM rotation affect my chances? Sorry to sound like a chronic worrier; but, I have my heart set on a university-based midwest IM program. Hearing (and observing) match horror stories is what got me worrying in the 1st place...

if you don't like posting, PMs are fine!

Hmmm your Step score is great the pass on IM might be a bit of a hindrance. But don't sweat it, be proactive. Take your Sub-I and do really well on it I would also then do an elective rotation at the Midwest program you want. Take an elective as opposed to a Sub-I medicine rotation and get an LOR. Do well on your Step 2 too and you should be golden.

i guess it also depends on where you go to med school, but assuming you are at a US MD or even DO you should have no prob getting interviews at those schools. make sure other parts of your application are good (like your letters), but i dont think your step 1 score and pass in IM should hold you back.

If its any encouragement, I received interviews at all three programs with very similar stats. The only thing you are missing is a solid LOR as previously mentioned. A rotation in a potential fellowship at said programs might be want you need, as the workload will hopefully be manageable enough to learn the new EMR system while your interest should be high. Hit up the program in July or August while the interns are still fresh, and maybe you will get props in your LOR such as "already works at the level of the intern", as they will be struggling to learn the new system as well....
