I'm Korean too! I'm from the Seattle area, but want to study at a dental school on the East Coast.

I can't believe we've started the "Korean pre-dental" thread three times already. This is the third time.

The first thread consisted of one a-hole who said Korean applicants at his interview had lower stats than he did. Probably a jealous a-hole.

The second thread, kind of died down.

But thanx for reviving the Korean thread!!!

well, i graduated from UCLA in 2005 with Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics major, i first got into dentistry after a nice chitchat with Dr. William Dorfman, who you may know from "Extreme Makeover", and right away I knew this was the career for me.

so i enrolled myself in one of those vocational school for RDA, trained myself for 9 months, and been volunteering/working as dental assistant for about 2 years now. i applied to cali schools, but as someone already mentioned it, they are very competitive.

i got accpeted to Boston, UNLV, and Case, and after careful evaluation of each school, Case was the best in terms of quality of education, cost of education as well as cost of living, despite some horrendous review on cleveland by fellow peers. it's not like i'm going to have a life for the next 4 years, so i figured where i live shouldnt be that much of a worry.

i've been working for this so hard the past 4-5 years and i'm just grateful that i finally get to go to school for it :)

where you go to school should be the last thing on your mind, i think. unless you have some extraordinary stats and background, you should be thankful whatever school accepts you. with that said, i wouldnt mind staying in cali and go to a school in cali, but i've pretty much lived here all my life and living somewhere else for extended period of time would be a learning experience.

good luck!

I am a korean pre-dent too...

Yeah, I heard that, too. My friend told me that asians are actually quite overrepresented in healthcare. I'm originally from Korea, but since I just establish permanent residency in sc, I guess I can say I'm from SC? :) Anyway, it's pretty cool to see korean pre-dents in this forum.
Good luck to you all! Who knows we'll see each other next year. :)

i remember seeing your profile at predents.com..
do you go to columbia? if so, do you like it? what are pros and cons of columbia?

Thanks!

sent my supps in even before the printout was mailed. they dont have an excuse for lagging now. for supps and fees, u should check each site for the schools u applied to and see if they require u to send them together. they will be available for download. GL.

are we paying additional fees to each school? I thought we
already paid application fees to aadsas. if we do, when do
we pay them? do we just send the check to them????

Yeah. You need to send additional fees to each school you are applying to. Each school's fee ranges from 20 to 75. Mostly however, they are above 50 bucks.

As far as when to send the checks... you need to check with the schools. Some schools require you to send WITH the AADSAS app while some ask you to send them AFTER the admissions officer contacts you. You can send them with your supp apps. Just go to each of the schools' websites and find out about the application process. You can use the AADSAS links in the designation section of the website, but I think it's more helpful to go through each website. Jahl heh bo seh yo..... and of course, don't stress. You have so much time to do it all. After all, isn't that what this damn hot summer is for?

Good luck everyone! I think u guys will really enjoy Columbia- best wishes on your application process- I don't regret one moment of my time there. I only graduated 2 months ago, but already miss everyone there. In my class there were quite a few Koreans. There's always a substantial Korean-dental representation even now in my ortho program.

I"ve notice a trend that there tends to be at least one Korean in many dental schools I've visited.

Wow, I didn't know dentistry was that popular amongst Koreans!
