How'd it go, big dog?

Pretty brutal, I thought. Not feeling the greatest about it, but I don't think that's unusual. I guess I'll find out in July! Have you already taken it?

Yep, I've been done for a few weeks now. Today is my 3rd Wednesday, but I find it unlikely they'll drop the score on me today. But that doesn't stop me from obsessively clicking "refresh" all day. ;)

I had very mixed feelings about it. I suppose I still do. In the first several days after the exam, I had to look up questions I remembered, even being woken up a few times with a question in my mind that I had to go look up.

Congrats on being done! What is your first rotation?

My 4th Wednesday is July 4th... so I probably won't get it until the 11th. I hear you about clicking refresh, though... I was so bad about that with my MCAT!

I try not to think about it. It's out of my hands, there is nothing I can do about it. I feel like I got too used to how UWorld wanted you to think... the actual USMLE is a little different. I had been getting between 70-80% on my UWorld blocks, but I don't feel like I did anywhere near that well on the actual thing. Oh well... it's off to the lake for me!

Congrats to you as well, I start out on surgery... followed by internal med. How about you?

I lead it off with peds. Surgery is up second and I did that so the new interns and CA1s for our advanced positions weren't in their first month and vying to do everything when I get my little taste of gas. I'm pumped to start and utterly terrified. I feel like I knew (because it all leaked out after block 7 on that ill-fated day) a bunch of esoteric facts not necessarily related to the practice of medicine. Now, I feel like I don't know anything. C'est la vie, I suppose.

This thread is becoming progressively less metal. Here's a reset:

I'm telling you, Sepultura, SoulFly, Cavalera Conspiracy are the best metal. These bands are ran by the Cavalera brothers (Max and Igor) from South America with a Portugues tone (mostly rocked out in English)... "Roots, Bloody Roots!!!" Also MushroomHead from my hometown Cleveland, OH never fails.

Cheesy vid, but enjoy the song.

Listen to Cavelera Conspiracy "killing inside, Genghis Khan (my favorite), Jihad Joe, Lynch Mob, Blood Brawl, and Must Kill". I personally like every song of their first two albums but these are the best

Might have fallen off some radars, but Prong is back. And they still sound Prong-y.

"You want the good life, you break your back, you snap you fingers, you snap your neck!!!!!!"

Not really new, but they're on tour this summer. I can't wait to see them again in a ****ty hole in the wall club! Slow, grinding, and brutal.

I'm a big lyric person...specifically, I like dark, meaningful, creative lyrics. Rather than post more songs I thought I'd list some of my favorite lyrics, all from Lamb of God (who I think are the best metal lyricists...old Orgy is also among the best but I wouldn't consider them metal):

Blood of the Scribe
All of this comes crashing down,
Cornerstone's gone
Sleepless, hopeless, no end in sight.
Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe.
Rest comes easy to the guiltless
The vampire laments as he prays for the sun.

Foot to the Throat (an intelligent, creative spin on the Virginia emblem)
Never held down, never restrained.
Virtue's foot to the throat, free of broken chains.
Thus always to tyrants,
Laugh at the conquered, the victims now betray.

Ruin
Silence speeds the path to the streams of solace that run so few and narrow.
Brooks that babble the sounds of torture.
You will one day rise
To flood the banks of the chosen.

was unaware they are touring... trying to decide if I want to drive 2 hours to see them, aaaand yeah that show was last week. Hmpf.

You guys need to listen to the 1970s- re-discover the classics. In addition, old country is great as well.
Here are 3 awesome tunes:

I realize these songs are far different than heavy metal.

While I love the metal, these are some good songs, as well.

I think the Johnny Cash cover of NIN "hurt" is pretty damn good:

I actually like the Cash version over the NIN version.

Ulcerate. Tech-death from New Zealand. Pushing the sonic envelope, if you will.

And to cleanse the palate, this drummer obviously feels that he missed his calling. Love the energy...

I see some pretty brutal stuff posted here which is awesome...

Deathspell Omega, esoteric black metal from France. No one knows the identities of the members and they do zero live shows/publicity. Really impressive musicians though.

Great album. France is putting out some good material - see also Gojira (new album came out last week), Les Discreets, and Alcest - although Alcest is walking a strange line between black metal and atmospheric dream pop.

I like this cover a little bit more... Old genesis tune. Land of confusion

Caught up with MoTA just after July 4th when they were in town. AWESOME SHOW at a tiny-ass bar with only about 30 or so people there. Wasn't even a cover. Talking with the singer and drummer, this pseudo tour was a warm-up for their Europe tour this fall. Unfortunately they didn't play the coolest Peter Gabriel cover ever made:

Caught Iron Maiden last week.

Check 'em out if you can... Sick show, great sound, FANTASTIC set of nothing but classic Maiden hits. 100% fun.

Nice pics! There's something to be said for the old school big production shows!

Sepultura has the best heavy metal album of all time... Roots!

I'm in love.

I caught a Slayer show recently, and they still know how to burn down the house. Worth seeing live if you are a casual fan.

Bump.

She's a good drummer, I like this link of her even better, a little Tom Sawyer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKFJbSzhovk

I just sent the link to my best friend, and asked if he'd heard of her (he's a touring and professional drummer)
and he replies, "She's my drum student..." LOL.

I've asked for an introduction, needless to say... ; )

Jason Newsted has a new band called "Newsted" out... not too bad. I bought the 4 song "album" from iTunes, but this is my favorite song:
