Any news from Baylor - anyone?? anyone?!!?

I was just wondering if anyone out there has recently heard (or know of anyone) from Baylor?

I have a few friends who interviewed a month ago, and there has been no word on acceptances. I believe there have been about 3 rounds of interviews (11/15 & 11/22 & 12/13/02). If anyone has any info on whether Baylor has sent out acceptances for any of these interview dates, please post!!

I was just there today. There have been more rounds than that.
Just from the acceptances thread you can see there was 9-27-02, 9-13-02, 10-11-02, 11-22-02, 11-08-02, and as you mentions 11-15, and today 12-13. They mentioned that Dember is a big one and they are having three rounds this month, and will continue to interview until February.

Dean Leighton Hill said that they accept a few people from each round, and then the remainder they wait to decide on until the May timeframe. Therefore, if you haven't heard within a couple of weaks (max 2), then sit back and prepare for the longhaul. This was my understanding, but if anyone else knows differently please correct me.

Other factoids for the Baylor enthusiats (a club which I now belong).

4000 Applications
600 interviews
300 acceptances
168 matriculate

I've spoken with a first year who knew interviewed on the first day last year. He knew people who got in on 10/15, December, February, and May. So if they haven't changed the ranking system, you can probably pop up at any time, it probably just isn't likely if you haven't after the first 2 weeks to pop up before May.

I don't know if there were any interviews yesterday...I interviewed on 12/6, and I think they only interview every two weeks. So I'll be staring at the phone for the next week or two also...

Oh, and I almost forgot...Dr. Johnson, one of the members of the admissions committee, said they will be accepting "quite a few" people right before Christmas. So I guess that's this week?

I heard from an adcom person that there are still a lot of spots left to fill - so keep the faith ppl.

I was doing this like crazy back around October 15th and it SUCKS! Good luck with this round of acceptances, and if not, I promise the waiting gets easier. Still, all I want for Christmas is Baylor.

well - from the grapevine - one of my buddies heard from them on the 12/20 as well. So if anyone else has heard or can confirm that the big bad Bradshaw was telephoning away that friday, please let the rest of us know.

My experience with Baylor was great. I interviewed in November and got accepted within a week. (Sorry for sounding glib, I just love everything about the school, that's all) but I understand that fast acceptances are really rare. Hang in there, it is a brutal system but they are worth the wait!

I interviewed at Baylor on Sept. 13th and still no word. Anyone else out there still waiting who interviewed with me? It's a great school and I wish I would here something. It looks like I've fallen into the "wait until May" category.

I interviewed 9/27 and I'm still waiting too. Seems there is a long wait for many. The other people I know who interviewed with me have yet to hear anything either.

I interviewed on the same day and haven't heard anything yet. I'm just going to assume we're not going to hear anything until April or May.

I interviewed in Jan and still no word.... I thought they were supposed to have made the decision the night of our interview (or did I hear wrong at the orientation?)

I talked to someone in the admissions office on Friday. For all those that interviewed in February, they haven't made any decisions yet. They were going to wait until all the interviews had been done. Now that they're officially over, stay by your phones for the next couple weeks. Dean Bradshaw calls every single person and then letters are mailed out. So, don't despair. There is definitely still hope. I was told that those that get interviews have "an extremely good chance" of getting in. There's usually a place for you if they take the time to interview you. Good luck.

After waitlist and all that, they take half of those they interview...i'd say that pretty good, since most other top schools are around a 1/3.......except for michigan which is around 60%...

REally?...tha'ts the day I was there?....where are you from?.....i'm the kid from ft lauderdale......during intros i was all the way in the back, next to the dean.............

i never got a call, but then again my answering machine was broken at the time, and i was out of town for a while, so that's prolly why.......but i did get the letter on feb 3...........anyway, are you goign there?..

Hmmm...I don't really remember...I did my undergrad at Berkeley, and right now it's between Baylor and Southwestern, but I'm pretty sure it will be Baylor.

I loved Baylor when I visited (Feb.7th). I liked it better than Wash U, and Cornell among others. Thus I am waiting by the phone for "the Call."

To stay on Topic - I called Baylor today and they told me end O' March to beginning of April. Damn slow admissions office.

We have talked on this thread about more acceptances to come after all of their interviews are finished, but can anyone confirm that? Man, such a great place but so frustrating to hear nothing after 7 months. Thanks for any info you guys may have.

Yes according to their site.

"All positions are not filled until all interviews in Houston are completed

Notification of acceptance to Baylor?s first-year class, exclusive of "early decision applicants," can be made as early as October 15. However all positions are not filled until all interviews have been completed. Enrollment is contingent upon the student?s satisfactory completion of all undergraduate course requirements.

Entering students must submit a nonrefundable tuition deposit of $300 by May 15 to hold their place in the class. In deference to alternate wait-listed applicants, no places are offered to individuals already holding a place at another medical school in Texas after June 1."

Dean Michaels came to visit my undergrad yesterday, and according to him they have already given out about 80% of the acceptances that they will ultimately give out this year. So we've still got a chance but it's getting slim. PLEASE O PLEASE LET ME BE IN THAT LAST 20%!!!!!

Not to burst your bubble (I'm waiting to hear too)... but wouldn't that last 20% be acceptances off the waitlist? or no?

The last interview day was Feb 21st. Didn't someone say earlier that they would be done accepting at the end of March? Even at the interview, though, Dr. Johnson said that you could get accepted at anytime until May. I know it sucks for those of you still waiting. Good luck!

I got my pre-interview rejection yesterday. It was such a long, agonizing, and hopeful wait, but in the end turned out to be just more bad news

This was the last of the bunch int he states, so now I can switch my attention to the waiting game in Canada. We'll see what happens there...

I don't know if it helps, but I'll tell you what happened to me last year. I interviewed in late September, then didn't hear anything until March. In March, I got a letter saying I was on the waitlist (I believe everyone who interviews gets this letter if they weren't already accepted).

At that point, I sent in a letter of intent plus two additional recommendation letters - one from my boss who has associations with Baylor research, and one from a physician I shadowed who went to Baylor. I also sent updated transcripts.

On May 16, I got the call from Dean Bradshaw. I don't know if I was already at the top of the waitlist, or if the additional stuff I sent in helped to bump me up.

I had to defer because I had a baby in October. So, I'll be seeing some of you this fall.
