any opinion on doing a traditional (D.O.) and then reapplying for residency?

Hi, the question is in the title. I'm not pleased with the places I've interviewed and am considering doing a traditional year and taking the USMLE (as a D.O. I only took the COMLEX) and then reapplying to see if I get interviews at the better programs in California. Has anyone done this route or know of anyone who did it?? Any opinions would also be highly welcomed!!!
