I was wondering if there are any other pet owners who are worried about what they will do with their pets in med school. In NYC schools, you really need to live in med school dorms which dont allow pets. I would hate to leave my cat behind.

When I interviewed at NYU, the students admitted that there are a few animals living in the dorms. It's all unofficial, but apparently it can be done.

Believe it or not cornell and columbia are really cool about pets (I have already looked into this...people thought I was psycho, this was one of my questions on the tour  ) However, the rules are at cornell once you get into the apartments (out of the main dorm) you can have them (Including dogs    )and at columbia same thing, once youare in the towers you can have what ever you want...I am not willing to give up my dog...this is what is actually edging columbia over cornell for me, I qualify for couples housing at columbia and not at cornell (they are much more strict I guess?????) and trying to find an apartment in NY (particularly manhatten that a student can afford) that lets you have a pets is a nightmare!!!

I heard the same thing about Einstein - "unofficial pets". I have two cats - one is 16 Y/O, so I can't leave him behind. I'll just have to pay the higher rent somewhere else if it won't work in the school housing.

I have a snake that will be living in Bard with me. My main issue right now is trying to find a way to ship her over without paying 400 dollars or finding a way to smuggle her cross country :)

Trout, you said they wouldn't mind if you had a pet in Bard right?

Since there are supposable no RAs in bard I can't imagine that they would care...assuming you don't mind sharing your cubical with the snake...maybe you should get the corner one with the bathroom at least....about the smuggling...if she can fit under the seat you can fly with her...also I just know about the towers...

Cool, so maybe I can keep my kitty at Columbia. I could stand a year in close quarters with my cat until hopefully I got into the towers.

Even if there are RA's around, they can look the other way (or be bribed)!

I refuse to leave my cats behind even if it means paying through the nose on rent. I don't understand how these schools think were responsible enough to be doctor's but trying to keep a dog isjust too overwhelming for us.
I train Newfoundlands for water rescue. It keeps me sane, and i plan on having one while in medicine. There's nothing like a 150 lb dog licking your face to remind what's important to life
SCOOB- My sister stuck her 4 ft python in her pants when she flew from Louisianna to San Diego. It can be done. If I were you I'd make sure to feed it first!

but I don't think there would be any room for her :)

  :p :p

This is one of the many reasons that I am happy that I will be going to Umass and can stay in my little house out in the country. My best friends, Guinness(100lb golden retriever) and Foster(15lb Bichon Frise), would not be happy in an apartment in a city. If I had ended up in a city the boys would end up living with my parents full-time (right now we share custody).

Hey Scoob,
Is that a snake in your crotch-or are you just happy to see me? <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" />
