FMG looking into research opportunities, at an international school where research opportunities are dismal. Does anyone know of any programs that need man-hours that can be logged away from the bench? For example, an ongoing project at some school in the states that could e-mail data, international students could process it, and send it back? Or other electronic correspondence? Kind of a stretch, I know, but just wanted to see if anything was out there...

I wonder if there is something like this as well.

You can always do surveilance work - figure out the prevalence of disease X in the local population. It's important, especially for physicians practicing in your area, and it can be cheap.

Distance work can theoretically exist, but what you're suggesting is very much what statisticians do.
