Well Eric, when you get into Yale or Wash U or Cornell, you're gonna remember your Binghamton folks.... right? You're not gonna ignore us... right? 😉
Sanman,
-Yeah get really good grades and be serious about your classes
-it may help to major in biochemistry (that is if you don't have strong aversions for P chem or Bio P. Chem.) over biology in terms of research internships, etc.
-if you want to do honors research or just some independent study scout out your options. As cmb said the chem dept is probably overall more successful. Go to entrez-pub med and see which faculties have published recently and which haven't (don't want to mention any names 😀). Some of the faculty may even have infamous reputations 😉.
-and to differ from cmb 😀, don't do an occ internship. Wasn't it like 100 hours/semester 😱. Just volunteer a few semesters. If you don't want to go off campus, there's Harpurs Ferry.
