willing to shed some light and guide a lost soul? I've narrowed my choices down to Tufts and Columbia. I've spoke with many Columbia dental students and have gain some good insight. However, I also want to get some advice/insight on tufts. If any of you are from tufts, i'd really appreciate it if you can help me out...

1) Are D1&D2 expected to take classes with med students?
2) Is there guarante housing for 1st yr students?
3) Are most midterms/finals multiple choice?
4) Approx what % of graduate go onto start practicing dentistry, (not counting those who went to GPR/AEGD first)
5) Honestly speaking, if you had a choice btw tufts and columbia, which would you choose and why?

I would REALLY appreciate any advice/suggestions/input to this matter.

No

I believe so...Check with the office. They have a dorm on harrison street which is a 30 second walk to the school.

3) Are most midterms/finals multiple choice?

Most of the exams were multiple choice. Gross anatomy was not, but the answers were mostly one or 2 words.

4) Approx what % of graduate go onto start practicing dentistry, (not counting those who went to GPR/AEGD first)

I would say about 60-70%

Well I did get into columbia along with upenn and 20 other dental schools. I am from MA and wanted to practice in the NE. I am not a big fan of NYC and didn't care much for the facilities at Columbia. Where do you want to practice? I can say that Tufts is a WELL known name in New England. I have never had a patient ask me "Where did you go to dental school, BU?" It's always Tufts and they think that is great. I do think that Tufts prepares you really well clinically. You learn the basics really well. If you want to learn more(like implants, esthetic stuff) you have to
hussle and get some cases. Patients weren't a problem when I was in school. I know that the dental schools in Boston depend on masshealth patients(medicaid) for a sizable portion of their patient pool. There were cuts in medicaid recently. You should call up the school and ask them how that has affected students. The only medicaid patients I had was one for a denture and one for a partial. You can feel free to PM if you like. What I REALLY recommend is that you take 2 days off and visit Columbia and Tufts and see how you like them. Ask the students these questions, watch them in action, etc... 4 years is a long time and you don't want to base you decision on a few comments. 🙂

I have never heard of anyone getting into 22 dental schools. wow. Tufts is great, but when you have choices like that, how did you end up at tufts?

I was really paranoid about not getting in. I liked Tufts because it was close and a rather successful dentist in the family recommended it. Don't get me wrong, every school has its problems, but I am pretty happy with the choice I made. Looking back on things, I would choose a cheaper school because my loan debt was enormous. If this were a choice between a 40k a year school and a 10k a year school, I would tell you to take the 10k a year.
