Since this is such a singularly narrow field yet very diversified field, it has been incredibly hard to locate those who may be interested in this field. I am compiling a contact list for a sole practitioner to review and make contact from so if anyone is considering this amazing and actually financially rewarding field, please contact me so I can add you to my list for this doctor.
Thank you!

What are you making the list for? So a vet who does avian work knows which students want to do avian work?

I think we would all be more willing to reply if you gave us more information. Who is the sole practitioner here? Is this for a potential job offer to new grads? Is this list being made to form a type of social networking group? Any more info you could give us about what this list is for would be very helpful.

Not for vet services but I know a guy in sunny Philadelphia that practices solo bird law.

For a sole practionier. I'm making a contact list for her as she is considering bringing in someone to work with her. I'm not at liberty to give out her info just yet as she does not have the time or manpower to respond as she is just VERY, VERY busy so I told her I would try to compile a list and provide the info to her. She is a little skeptical that there are any who want to practice just avian medicine. Apparently, it can be a very lucative but little known single concentrated field.

I think it's pretty well known, but not very common. That's because there isn't a lot of demand from owners of avian, reptilian, and small mammal pets.

There are relevant job/student opportunity boards she could post on if she's looking to hire an associate or mentor students. AAV, AAZV, ABVP are a few. You'd probably get far more traffic and inquiries if you posted there for her.

I'd also disagree that it's a little known field, but I also have Dr. Ken Welle and a ton of 'bird nerds' at my school alone so I may just be lucky. Also people are willing to drive 3+ hours to see a well known specialist, so there are fewer vets who are dabbling in bird medicine vs. seeing exotic mammals for example. Plus dealing with bird people is just as bad (sometimes worse) as dealing with horse people...

I don't know. I think I'd prefer working with bird owners over horse owners. Although both can be pretty intense.
