Hi everyone. I noticed on the Pre-Allo forum that med school students (1st, 2nd, etc.) are willing to read AMCAS essays and give pointers. I submitted my essay to a few people there for review, however, I was wondering if there are any osteo students who can read my essay (since I'm only applying to DO schools)? That is the only step I have to complete before submitting my application. I appreciate any help I can get.

    Thanks a bunch....water

ooops! Please email me or reply here as to what format you would like to read the essay in (ie. Word attachment or included into email reply). I'm sure there are other students who would love to get some pointers as well.

    thanks again....water

Hi everyone...thank you very much for reading my essay and responding :) . Also, I received a few replies from the pre-allo students..it seems that my essay is too personal.

Some have told me to emphasize my experiences during volunteering and others said to keep it personal...that it makes my essay unique since not too many people have had to decide between my choices. I'll try to incorporate most of the suggestions and hopeflly, then, it'll be well-rounded. (Hopefully ). Again, I appreciate all your feedback.

Hi md_do...Thank you very much for responding. I PMed you.

Also, someone else told me I sound spoiled/selfish for leaving home. If this is what my essay is coming across as, please let me know, I'll change it immediately b/c that is far from the truth. I appreciate everyone's reponses...you guys have been wonderful in willing to give me your time and advise . Thanks!!!

Be careful with your personal essay. Remember it is your essay and it should say what you want medical schools to know about you.

If you ask enough people about it, you'll get every different kind of opinion you can imagine. What one committee might see as a negative, another might see as a positive. For example, one committee might see your leaving home as selfish, another might see it as dedication to your dream of being a doctor.

Consider everyone's opinion, but make the essay your own. I might be wrong, but I'd suggest that if you start making drastic changes, do so because you feel it will make the essay better.

Believe me, I know it's difficult. The essay is the hardest part of the application because you want it to be perfect. God knows, I worked on mine for weeks. If I never write another one it will be too soon. :)

    Good luck!!

Trust me I know the feeling . I'm losing sleep over this!!! Everything else on my app is done but this!!! God, I can't wait till it's over.

I'd be glad to read for you. Send to [email protected]

Relax and be you. If you're someone else, you might forget who you were during your interviews.
