im a new poster here!! a friend suggested i use this forum as a guide to medical school...

My situation is that I was born in Washington State and lived there for nearly 15-16 yrs...my family moved out into the eastcoast and ive lived there for 6 years. Westcoast>>Eastcoast...haha!! FYI i still have a bank account in seattle, but no family whatsoever!!

i would really like to go back to seattle to study at UW med school !!! it's really my dream city to reside in...there is no other city i wanna study in...it was miserable studying in UNC !!! although i still managed to earn a stellar GPA/MCAT score !!!

thanks everyone and i appreciate your time!!! 🙂

I've spoken with some current students and they've told me that if you can demonstrate some sort of significant link to the NW, even if you're not a resident, sometimes they will consider your application. But even so, there usually needs to be some other compelling reason such as being a premed superstar or being interested in rural or underserved medicine. Admits like these will usually be charged out-of-state tuition for the first year and then in-state for following years if they can establish residency.

I was in a similar situation in that I grew up and went to high school in Seattle and then spent 8 years in Boston going to college and working. Knowing that I wanted to apply to the UW, I moved back 1.5 years ago and re-established residency. I was able to apply as an in-state applicant and got admitted this year.

For more info, I suggest you call both the admissions office about their specific policies and the residence classification office at the UW (residency is determined separately from admissions). You should be able to find both phone numbers on the UW website. Hope this helps.

I would call the admissions office, but my guess is if you are not a resident they won't care. I used to live in Eastern WA and applied this year as an Oregon resident and got rejected pre-secondary because of the residency requirements. A friend of mine was born and grew up in seattle (until college), became a colorado resident and was also rejected pre-secondary. Just for reference, my numbers are about the same as their averages, but her numbers are considerably better.

If you are really that dedicated to UW, just move back there. You only have to be there 12mo before the start of classes to be classified as a resident.
:luck:
