any WL movement at SLU or Tulane?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just withdrew from the waitlist at SLU today. Hopefully that will help you out a bit.

I withdrew from Tulane about a week ago. It's a great school ... i hope you get in 🙂

i was also wondering if anyone has withdrawn from tulane

bump................

Come on people there must be something happening at these schools. Any news would be appreciated.

I got in off of SLU's waitlist in late April. That's all I know...

😱 where's the movement? don't the adcoms know it's post may 15 now?

I am guessing (hoping) that maybe they wait until after May 15, when they know about how many people will withdraw for sure, before they meet and discuss who to take. Doesn't make sense to keep meeting whenever one spot opens up. So Hopefully in the next few days.....

Nothing still? I'm praying that there wasn't an abnormally small amount of withdrawals or anything like that. These schools are known for having a good amount of wl movement.

I am dying to hear from Tulane. I don't wan tot freak out and take this as a bad sign, but I wrote an e-mail to the Dean on Monday and he hasn't responded. Please, oh please, let me hear from Tulane. Does anyone have any idea??????????

No reponse for me either. 🙁

I just called the admissions office at SLU and found out that there hasn't been any recent movement in the last couple weeks. Apparently they were over-enrolled before May 15, so there aren't that many spots open right now. A limited amount of movement is supposed to start soon. Basically the main hope right now for those still waiting for a spot is that applicants already holding an acceptance at SLU must get off other wl's and withraw their SLU spot in order to open up more slots.

I just called Tulane, and the secretary told me their waitlist began moving this past Monday. She wouldn't give any more information other than the fact that they probably will keep taking ppl off of it thru August.

at least its finally starting to move...good luck you guys.

Hi you guys,
I don't mean to freak anyone out but I interviewed at Tulane in the beginning of March (don't worry i was waitlisted as well). During my second interview, I was told that Tulane's class was already full since like early February/end January and that they had since been just interviewing people for the waitlist. That's pretty scary (and also a huge waste of time since I was coming from Los Angeles). Anyway, I'm guessing there may not be as much movement as in previous years or their waitlist must be off-tha-hook!! Anyway I'm not saying any of this to discourage anyone...just a heads-up. :scared:

Most med schools classes are "full" by January...if not earlier. After May 15 they obviously become "un-full" as people choose other schools.
Its nothing fishy going on at Tulane...they were just nice enough to tell you.

Hey guys

If you get accepted to both schools, which would you rather go to?

😀 Tulane...I like New Orleans a lot better than Saint Louis.

yep, Tulane's class is usually full by January. However, the good news is that the waitlist is unranked, so even someone interviewing on the last day of interviews has as good a chance as anyone else on the waiting list (all other things being equal, of course)

Based on my last call to the SLU office I'm pretty sure there should be some movement this week. I'm starting to lose hope for Tulane. 😕

Don't lose hope! We'll hear something soon. It's still early, keep the faith! 🙂

That's right, keep the faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, it kind of sucks that they haven't responded to my, like, 15 e-mails. What's going on? Is this happening to anyone else?

Please let there be some movement today...even it it's not me...According to Tulane their "peak of movement" occurs in May and NO ONE on SDN has reported getting off the list yet.

yeah dude, i cant believe no one has been called off of here. whats with that?

It stinks that the waitlist at SLU is ranked and to make things worse- kept confidential. There is no way track where you are on the waitlist. I called the admissions office the other day and the woman said that the waitlist was starting to move. So I guess, that's a good sign...

I just took myself off the waitlist at SLU....hope that helps!

I've decided that it's a conspiracy. The admissions office at Tulane has tracked down the identity of every SDNer waitlisted at their school and denied us admission despite our obviously stellar qualifications 😉 . I say it's time to sue. Who's with me? Let's get the case of SDN v. Tulane University rolling!!!!

I was just accepted off of the waitlist at Tulane, so it is definitely moving. Good luck to all of you!

Damn I guess that puts a hole in my little conspiracy theory 😀 . Congrats on getting into Tulane Arikansas  Are you planning on attending there?

Thanks! This was my first acceptance, so as of right night I am definitely going there...unless I get off of Sinai's waitlist, in which case I will pass my acceptance on to you 🙂

Naw, man, I want that accept, darn it! Congrats, buddy. I hope we all get off, because I'm hatin' on the waitin'.

Good for you!!! Hope that Mt Sinai also works for you if it's what you really want.
I am still trying to figure out what an unranked waiting list really means in practice. They count the number of LOIs from applicants? No of phone calls and emails? More LORs? Somebody tell me, bcos I'm at the end of my rope here.

I really hope June turns out to be an unusually strong month for wl movement at Tulane this year. I know in years past May was supposed to be their big month.

I just got a phone call from Tulane telling me that I have been accepted. Now I just have to decide whether to go to Tulane and withdraw from UAB, or stay at UAB. Oh, the decisions. 🙂

Well it looks like Tulane is finally starting to get moving. Anybody know what's going on with SLU?

I would like to know what is going on with SLU as well. Its really frustrating that they rank their wl, but will not tell you your rank, and also ask for any updates (transcripts etc). Its like they still are shifting people around.
I work in a research lab at the medical school and I just went upstairs this morning to check and see what was going on. I got nothing, save for the "our waitlist information is confidential" line.

Hey pennylane,
I'm assuming you are living in St. Louis right now? Where would you say is good place to live? Thanks.

Hey guys. I just received an email from Dr. Willmore, and he told me that they "have had considerable turnover from the May 15th deadline and the alternate
list is an active document." He said that more information about exact positions should be available by the end of next week.

Maybe this means they'll tell us our exact positions on the list, but I doubt it. Hopefully they'll at least give us info about the number of open spots.

🙂 good!! Hopefully they will let us know soon what our status is at SLU.

In response to the question of where to live in St. Louis, Lets see.... My car was stolen from SLU right next to the medical school, and just last week my wallet and keys were stolen from my desk drawer. It isn't in the best of neighborhoods. I went to SLU as an undergrad. I would suggest living either in the south county or west county area if at all possible. I know that some people do live near campus, but as a single female I would never consider doing that.
When you look at places call the local police to ask for a crime report. Downtown St. Louis has some rough spots, but to the south and west the neighborhoods get better.

I was wondering.... I haven't sent SLU my final semester of transcripts. Has everyone else done that?

Dear SurgeryRA:

Good places to rent in St. Louis, that are relatively close to SLU would include the Central West End: from North-South Boundaries: Laclede & McPherson, East-West Boundaries: Taylor to WashU undergrad.

Also, Brentwood, Maplewood, Webster Groves are a pretty short drive along I-64/40 (although traffic can be bad).

I used to live in valley park....sounds far away, but the drive along I-44 is a breeze, and the apartments out here are generally newer.

So the SLU Waitlist is moving... I got a call from them today. Hope all of you waiting hear something soon!

Any news from these schools?

I'm waitlisted at SLU, no news here.

Anyone hear any more about us finding out " more information about exact positions?" It is the end of the week now.

Are you guys certain that SLU is going to notify us of our exact position? I spoke with the secretary a couple of weeks ago and she said that they keep their wl confidential.?? 😕

Just released my seat at Tulane, so I hope that helps some of you guys on the waitlist. Good luck!
