Anybody else still "waiting to be reviewed"?

Argh!

Please let me know that I'm not the only one who's had completed applications for several months, and am still told that my application has not yet been reviewed!

I know I'm not going to be a first pick on my stats, but I'd like to at least know whether or not I'm still in the running. When I can't stand waiting anymore, and finally get up the nerve to call, all they tell me is that things are very busy and taking longer than normal this year.

Anybody else been told something similar?

ID, I'm waiting for Temple, Drexel, Vermont, Colorado, and Albany. I don't know if I'm reviewed yet or not, but all five of the above schools have neither rejected me nor invited me for an interview. And all have been complete since 9/1. I do know that at least Colorado is running a full month behind schedule this year.

By the way, your numerical stats are better than mine.

Your application looks great! I'm sure that more interviews will be coming your way. Remember that it is still fairly early in the interview season.

Thanks tacrum. I keep telling myself that even if I have to wait until April, it won't matter, but now that I have all my secondaries in I have nothing to occupy my mind in regards to acceptance. Before they were complete I kept on just one step at a time. Now I'm considering more applications. I guess I'm just not good at waiting. 😉

Although it's easier now that I can post some of my impatient thoughts instead of annoying my boyfriend with them every day!

Waiting does suck, but there is just no way to hurry the med schools along any faster, unfortunately. 🙁 There's definitely still plenty of time to hear. I had given up on one school where I was complete in mid-July as a lost cause, but then I just got invited to interview there. So, go figure.

Happy to hear it Q, I know I'm just impatient. The year and a half long MCAT/Application process does drive one to distraction sometimes. I think if I just had one acceptance I could relax a bit. I'd still want to hear from other schools sooner rather than later, but it would make the waiting a little less stressful.

hey guys....i too am really annoyed about not hearing back from places. i have had only one interview and have another one scheduled. i submitted my AMCAS in late august but didnt get a lot of my secondaries and LORs in until late sept. when do you guys think that it is OK to call some of the schools and check up on my status. i just dont want them to get annoyed. i cant handle waiting for a rejection/interview/acceptance...its soo time consuming.

many schools will review applicants and then decide that, while they may be "interviewable," they need to be compared to other applicants. so, your application gets put aside so that it can be reviewed again later. a lot of schools actually notify us of this - pre-interview "holds," "interview pools," etc. i'm sure many of us are in those pools. but, some schools don't actually notify you that your application has been put aside. and, when you call them (after x number of months), all they tell you is that "your application is being review."

i've applied in the past. there was one school that i really wanted to go to and, after applying in august, i never heard from them again until i was rejected sometime in the spring, no "hold letter," nothing. so, i called to see what i could do to improve my application and, to my surprise, the admissions person said that my file had been pulled out to be re-reviewed about 3 different times. in the end, they couldn't offer me an interview. i wish they had at least told me that i was on hold or something. i'm sure this isn't the case with all schools, but i'll bet that many schools do these sort of things.

And in response to medstylee, I know I'm in the "not eligible for interview at this time, but if we get too low on everybody we really want" file at Loyola. I just wish the rest of the schools would be as honest. I called Rochester a few weeks back, and the admissions person wouldn't budge on handing out any info on where my application was in the process. She wouldn't even tell me if it had been reviewed yet! Darn it! At least let me know I'm still in the running!!! I mean, two interviews; one done, one scheduled. No more info yet. A BIG Thank You to the schools who wanted to interview me, (I'm very anxious to hear back from the first) but to the rest of them... JUST TELL ME YOU KNOW I EXIST! <sigh> O.K. I'm done venting now. It's really pathetic that I'll still drive home from work on my lunchbreak tomarrow just to check the mail. And there won't be anything in it! 😳

I don't think you, I, or any other applicant gets much of a choice in the matter. Well maybe if you do early decision or have a really amazing application, but most have to wait. And you submitted in August, so to have two interviews now is still quite good.
