Hello, good people!

I applied to the dual degree program in MPH and MSW at UMich. I've been accepted into the MPH program, but I am still waiting on the MSW program, even though I applied back in November.😕

Has anyone else applied to this program -- or other good schools that offer the dual degree? If so, what schools? Has anyone been accepted into both at UMich yet -- or another school?

Yes - I applied to dual programs at Berkeley, LA, San Diego, and UIC.

Haven't heard anything from anyone yet. If you are set on a single school and don't get into both I would just attend for public health and then reapply next fall to the MSW program using a LOR from a current professor.

Thanks for the information....

What are your academic interest? I am interested in disease prevention and intervention for those at risk for HIV.

I am not applying to the dual degree program, but you should look into Washington University in St. Louis. Their MPH program is run out of the Brown School which is the top social work school in the country, and they have a dual degree program. When I visited for the MPH program, I was very impressed with the staff and students. The MPH program is still quite new but I think it's definitely a really good option--especially for someone applying for the dual degree.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

So happy! I just got into U-M's School of Social Work...and I was admitted to U-M School of Public Health!

Congratulations! I'm a WUSTL 1st year MSW student who is applying for our MPH program. I definitely see the value of the dual degree, especially when you are interested in HIV/AIDS issue. MSW can bring valuable individual/community level experiences to the MPH which focuses more on community/population.

Thanks so much! And it's funny that you mention HIV/AIDS, because that is my exact interest. I got a call from a young lady yesterday at WUSTL about finishing my app for the MSW program...part of me wants to and and the other part of me is being lazy since I was already admitted to UM MPH/MSW program. If your academic interest are in HIV, PM me and let's converse

LOL Unfortunately that's not one of my interests (or maybe just because I haven't had any related experiences!) Just saw your post before.

Our public health program is really new, and just got accreditation last year. It's still a "general MPH" without concentrations, so chose wisely. I'm not sure about the faculty cohorts regarding HIV, you could look them up at the website.

Another thing is that you will receive scholarship from both MSW AND MPH at WUSTL. Maybe you could apply and finally make the decision including financial aid info. If they also do that in UMich, then definitely UMich! 😀
