Anyone attend the Upstate second visit?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I didn't get to go either, but would really like to hear what happened and any info they gave out. Did a lot of people go? Thanks. 🙂

Howdy, i attended upstates second visit day and i got a much better impression than i did the first time i was there. The interview day didn't really provide me with much info about the school and i think they did a better job this time. so the run down of the day was:
welcome by the head of the university

overview of curriculum and some discussion about the practice of medicine course

a doctor in the area, also an alum, talked to us about why he is in medicine. i thought it was a very nice talk, he actually enjoys what he does, doensn't take himself too seriously, no god complex.

then we had lunch, which was way better than the boxed lunch on interview day. and a panal discussion followed that. it seemed like we didn't have that many questions but most of the kids on the panal seemed relatively normal and they all had outside activities, so that was cool.

then you could go on a tour if you wanted. i did, but mostly i talked to the students giving the tour, they were really cool and we mostly talked about reality tv, hehe.

i'm really bad at estimating numbers of people so i would say maybe 70 people were there, or it could be 100. many of the people there were on the wait list though and very few that i talked to had actually decided for sure if they were going to go there. overall i though it was a really great day, too bad you guys missed it.

i will be attending there in the fall so maybe i will see you there!

OldKing, basically what png-girl posted was what I PMed to geldrop, I think.
Also, I got the impression that people on the HP list had a really good shot. I talked to the physician who gave the little talk that was mentioned in png's post. He interviewed my roommate (who was accepted and with whom I was there that day) and he told me just to sit tight and not go crazy. He said that I'll 'probably' get in but may have to wait til June or July. That was encouraguing, but my phrase for the rest of this app cycle is "cautiously optimistic".
Overall, I thought the curriculum was good, they have a couple profs who actually write questions for the USMLE. They have some nice special programs and it seems easy to get involved in extra stuff.
The students with whom I spoke, as well as the prospectives there with me, were nice and seemed like normal, balanced individuals for the most part. The current students really stressed the community feeling among the student body across all the years and stressed the importance of maintaining balance...which for me is very important, cause I am NOT one of those study 24/7 types!!
The more I learned up upstate and what they have to offer, the more impressed I became...
Anyway, that's about it I think...if you have any specific questions I can try to answer them, either post here or PM me!!!

Spin😀 😀

hey e-spin, it's bad that i forgot your name already, but i'm colleen, we interviewed the same day and i talked to you on friday. i hope you get in! is your roommate definitely going?

Oh hi!!! Yeah, she is definitely going....well for right now anyway. She is WLed at a school in Texas, if she hears from them before the end of June she may decide to go there.
Anyway, it was good to see ya again at the 2nd visit day. Hopefully I can get off this damn waitlist and then I'll see ya there in the fall!!!
