anyone attending UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Wanted to know if they have a good pre-dental program?

i'm not sure what you consider a "good pre-dental program" as what you do to get into dental school is what you make of it; but if you want to goto UF for dental school then UF undergrad is a good choice...the # of students filling their dental class is made up of mostly UF students.

I attend UF here for undergrad, senior here majoring in biochemistry, yet most predentals are advised here to major in food science and human nutrition...that kinda bored me after my first nutrition class. UF has a nice dental school, really good faculty, but their facilities are kinda ancient. The dental school is in the Shands healthcare complex xlose by so a lot of predents do volunteering down there. They are big on community service and volunteering, like most schools are. Honestly though, Gainesville isn't the most happening city.

i agree.. you go to UF dental if you are a florida resident and want a cheap education. nough said.

thank you so much for the feedback! I am currently going to George Mason university and they don't provide much support for pre-dents. I am really trying to figure out a place to go. I am currently debating between University of FLorida and Temple university. Anyone know anything about temple? Also, I visited VCU in richmond and wasn't very fond of the place, however, I was told about the strong pre-dental advisors and how they really help make sure you get into a dental school.

Don't try and depend on anyone else to get you into dental school but yourself. UF is okay, the city is not that big and there is not a lot to do. I personally did not care for their dental facilities or cirriculum, so I was glad I had other options.

As far as Pre-Dental cirriculum, it doesn't matter what university you are at. As long as you get the pre-req's done, you'll be fine. As long as your school offers the science courses then you are set. I haven't really spoken to anyone at my school that "supports" and helps pre-dental students. There are advisors but I've learned not to believe what they say.

Just get your pre-reqs done, it doesn't matter what school you are at. HOWEVER, if UFCD is your #1, then I would suggest going to a FL school and becoming a resident, they favor FL residents and the resident doesn't have to come from UF undergrad (so don't feel like you have to limit yourself to gainesville).

To reiterate though, although UF favors FL residents, it also favors those that attended the university....or so it seems by looking at their numbers. Seems a bit pompous to me, but whatever floats their boat.

If you are going to go to a FL school, choose UF or FSU. Both schools are basically located in college towns, have awesome sports, great bars, hotties, etc.

Soon to be FSU grad and UFCOD hopeful,
whiskeysour 🙂

I attend UF undergrad and know that if you want to attend UFCD, then your best chance in an acceptance is UF undergrad because they show love to their own students. That said, this is a big research school and science classes are quite large = great research professors with very few who truly love and/or are great at teaching.

If i could do it over again, i would have attended a smaller, well known undergrad because i work better in small classes as i imagine most people do. Gainesville is a small collegetown that is fantastic if you want to experience a true collegetown life, but it lacks culturally.

if you want to partake in research, attend ufcd, or love college sports, come here.
