just wondering if anyone would really embrace the platitude, "GO WHERE YOU'LLL BE HAPPIEST!" . . .
And then take it to the extreme: like turning down a more prestigious school that costs much, much less, in order to be at the school that's a better fit.

I am most probably going to USC over UC Irvine because I see it as a better fit for me. The schools are pretty much on the same level academically but, of course, UCI is WAY cheaper. I struggled with this a lot (and still kind of am) but i just think I would be happier at USC for a lot of different reasons (location, family issues, feel of the school and the students, etc).
For my whole life, i have gone with my gut and I dont want to stop now. I guess its because i dont see the next 4 years as a means to an end (an MD). I see them as four years of my life that I will never get back and that I want to ejoy to the fullest even though I will be working my ass off.
I know there are lots of people on here that think i am crazy for voluntarily putting myself into more debt when I could go to a UC but everyone who knows me well says they think it is the right thing for me to do.

Bounty,

Out of curiosity, what is the tuition of each school?

hey mike
The cost difference is a lot. Tuition at USC is 35 grand and i believe at UCI it is 11 grand. I havent gotten financial aid stuff from either school yet though.

You should always choose the best fit for you, no matter what the school. In the end, your post-medical school training is going to determine your success as a physician. You need to be happy in medical school, so don't go somewhere that isn't the right fit just because it is a little more prestigous. Thats my 2 cents, I am sure that you will get some conflicting advice, but just make sure that whatever decision you make you will be happy for the next 4 years.

i'm the only one eh?
hmmmm
