I don't know about you guys, but I'm scared I won't get into some place this year. I'm a NJ resident, not an URM, have a 27Q (but 29 combined score), 3.52 GPA with 3.45 BCPM. I go to a top 25 college and have great LORs, ECs, research, clinical experience.

I took the August MCAT and my score did not change. I'm counting on my 2 NJ schools. But I called one of them today and they said my app was already reviewed once (before Aug scores came in) and that my app wont be looked at again till December.... hence, leaning toward a rejection. And that was at a school that I did a summer internship at.

Can anyone offer honest and comforting advice to me? Or are any of you in the same boat with no interviews (with equivalent stats as me)??

Thanks. =(

I am in a similar boat. Little higher GPA but a 27Q (28 combined) MCAT. I have had one interview and I am very nervous. Best of luck to you. Unfortunately my state school is so competitive that I don't even think I have a chance of getting in there.

Our situations, stats are extremely similar. I had one interview but I'm not too hopeful about the acceptance though I fell in love with that school. I'm a NY resident and so far nothing good from my state schools. I'm playing with the idea of applying to a DO school but I'm not sure this is for me. I'm also thinking about retaking the MCAT as depressed as this makes me. Hope everything works out for you this year but in case it doesn't, what do you plan to do?

i'm scared too. seems like as people are starting to get acceptances, more people are starting to get pre-interview rejections as well. i don't have any interviews, have borderline stats, august mcaters are getting interviews ahead of me, and i am reading about people with 31 mcat and 3.4-3.5 gpas getting rejected from their state schools straight out?

even with all the "hey it's only october, get some perspective" threads/posts out there, this does not make for an encouraging boost. it is scary indeed.

same here-- i have sub-par to borderline stats, with not-so-hot MCAT and have been complete at ~20 schools for little less than month, and am getting nowhere....extremely worried and stressing out....

I don't have any insight into the admission process, but I do have one tip:
When you are offered an interview, try not to focus on being scared. Picture yourself going there. Know that you are a great student and would be a great addition to their class. Your positivity will come across and definitely help you out. Also, do a lot of research on the school, get in touch with current students (SDN is great for that) and know why their school is a good fit for you.

Good luck! :luck: There are still a lot of interviews and acceptances to come!

meh...when its your 5th time around, then be nervous

thanx for the kind words. we are all hoping for the best!

i read on another board you got one of those 10/15 acceptances, congratulations! i remember even before the april mcat when we were all posting in the mcat forum, and now you have an acceptance! i am jealous. where did you get your acceptance from? is it your top-choice, or are you still going to interview around?

hmm. good question. i hope it wont come down to that for either of us. but if i dont get in, im thinking about NIH for 1 year. i already maxed out on the mcat since i took it 3 times already and i dont know if i have it in me to take it a 4th time. i really dont want to go to a DO school, nor a carribean school.

I am in a VERY similar position with nothing from the NJ schools. Do you mind saying where your application was deferred until December? Was it RWJ or NJM? Also, how did you find out that information when you called? I called both schools to find out if my application was complete, hoping they may shed some light as to why I havent heard anything, but they were pretty mum. Just curious how it worked out for you. Thanks a lot, and keep your chin up. Everything will work out.

it was robert wood. im surprised because first, i did an internship for them and i was expecting at least an interview. second, i dont understand why my app wont be read again until december since my aug scores just came in. most other schools would relook at my app within 2 weeks. the reason why i suspect a rejection from robert wood because the admissions officer i spoke to slipped up. she said that nj residents get an interview in the fall, and out of state get interviews in late fall and early winter. but im a nj resident and my app wont be looked at again till winter?? when i called, i didn't ask about whether it was complete. i just told them that now that my aug scores are in, when do i expect to hear something. she then typed in my info, looked, and saw that my app was already looked at. and then she told me in december, they will look at it again... even with the newly released aug scores.

gdbaby, have you even received an interview from CU yet? My website has said basically under review since the beginning of September! ARGH!

Im sorry to hear this. However, I can tell you from personal experience, I interviewed at RWJ two years ago in early February. Granted I was placed on an alternate list and later rejected, but I still think they interview NJ residents in January and February. They accept most of their students from NJ, so I doubt they will leave January-March to interview only out-of-state applicants. Also, I contacted Dr. Terregino and she said that the files will be reviewed again in a few weeks. So it is possible we may hear something early November. Please dont give it up. I know it sucks waiting, and I am checking my e-mail every two seconds for any word from the NJ schools. I think it will work out for us. It has to.

Nope. I live 8 blocks from the damn school, I feel like just walking in saying I am here for the interview and seeing what happens! I hear that they are a plug and chug school. They put in your MCAT, GPA and it spits out a number and they invite all people above a certain number. I have been under review for about as long as you.

Colorado.

I'm scared of both getting in and not getting in. It's all just so scary. 😀
No, really. It's scary. What if I get in?! What if I only get in to one place and then figure out that I don't really want to go there?! What if I don't get in anywhere?! Oh, the failure! The humiliation! The pain of reapplying!!! :scared:

i'm worried about the fact that everyone keeps saying that it's early and that i shouldn't worry about getting interviews but then i hear that schools are booked with interviews through january. so its really not THAT early considering that all those interview spots are already taken. ugh

No its not early. I am a reapplicant and can assure you that most interviews after december are only for waitlists. You really want to have at least a few interviews set up by Nov 1st, thats the reason applying early is pretty important.

yeah u better be wrong. lying will get u castrated and ur hair will fall off.

I'm worried that the few interviews that I do go will just result in massive debt addition to an already waning credit line and I won't get in anywhere and will have to apply next year. 😱

Bobo, man I know you mean well and you are a very helpful guy but you really gotta stop posting stuff like this. It's totally shattering my delusions and is possibly driving me to alcoholism. How many days 'till November?....I have to go find a happy place. 🙁

gd, I would seriously drive across the divide to walk in with you to try this. I'm a reapplicant, too. Unfortunately, I hear CU isn't known for loving non-trads. 🙁 So much for state school love.

Wow, we have similar stats. I haven't gotten any word from MD schools either. I would be really happy at OUCOM but STILL it'd be nice to get something, anything from my state schools, even rejections, just so I can stop wondering about it.

You should have decent shot at those schools that combine MCAT scores.

Most schools don't finalize their waitlists until March, so while you'll be at a disadvantage interviewing in February, I think that statement is a little extreme. The schools where I have interviewed have all stated that they do not fill their class until all interview are complete. There are people who interview on the very last day and are accepted.

I am sorry man, just trying to be honest about this process. I went through it last year and I interviewed at several schools in the spring and they were very honest that anything after January was for the waitlist. Of course people get in off the waitlist all the time. Think about it, most schools are sending out invites for interviews next month at the least. Schools have Christmas break just like everyone else. So early to mid Nov invites are probably for mid december. If you get an invite in December it will be for January. Sorry Rayhan I dont mean to drive you to alcoholism, I just dont have rose colored glasses anymore , not after going through this process 2 times. Good luck to you!

Thanks. It still doesn't really seem real, but It sure feels good. To answer your questions: Michigan & Yes! 🙂

So, speaking of combining, does anyone know which med-schools combine MCAT scores?

I've taken it twice and had good physical and verbal scores the first time, then good bio and writing scores the second time - however, my second overall score was lower than the first. 🙁

Thanks!
